Wasn't Lafonda's the old Black Angus? Is there an echo?

Man you really must be showing your age.

If so that was before my time. It being Lafonda's when I was in high school late 70's.

So if it was anything else, it was before that time.

Lafonda's has, quite possibly, the most pathetic lunch buffet I've ever had.

I wont argue that fact, ate it years ago and it was pretty bad.

But I avoid all buffets these days.

Only ate there once. Don't remember too much about the food, was too busy watching the ROACHES crawling up the wall behind my table.

ETA: This was several years ago. They've probably cleaned up since then, but I'm still not going back.

Black Angus was at that location when Lafondas was at plank and airline...The Spinosa's owned it (The dinner club before that) When the Spinosa's died of cancer the kids Tommy, Kenny, Debby, and Randy (who were all minors) and the
restaurant were placed in the care of the aunt and uncle...The musso's... when Tommy became 18 he took it over and changed the name to Royal Angus when he closed it down he sold the property to lafondas...thus goes the history lesson of the early days of baton rouge...thanks for your attention....grandpa tim

He was very wise to get out the resturant bussiness... considering, Don't you think...

Tav did they rub two sticks together to get the stove going back then ?

Hey Tav, your next mission, should you chose to accept it.

The History of Toby's Oak Grove Resturant in Lafayette... you know anything about this place ?

Yes, Tommy has done well...can't imagine he would have made zillions in the restaurant business....they did have gas stoves back then but you lit them with matches(those little wood sticks with the red tips) I still keep up with the Broadmoor gang and Kenny Spinosa is the best neighbor anyone could ask for. I really know very little about Lafayette but I am old enough to remember getting there down airline hwy

I've gone there for almost 35 years. Very young child when I started going w/ parents. Was up by Plank at Airline then. Still good stuff, just a little different than others.

My papou (grandfather) was one of the original owners, but he passed away long ago before I was even born. My mom and yia yia (grandmother) are still involved in the place. I bring friends by quite often and many of them say the meat nachos are the best they've ever had. The taco meat certainly is one of kind. Some dishes are done really well in my opinion, and some others I stay away from. And for whoever mentioned the lunch buffet, I do agree with you there. It's not terrible, but it's much better to just get something off the menu.

The restaurant has been around so long that it has become a friendly place for many families. Unfortunately, it's on the wrong side of town, but the nachos alone are worth making the trip there.

I knew it was Black Angus. I remember going to lunch there when I was a kid out for summer and my dads office was on Wooddale Blvd.

What was the name of the place just before Don's? Two Chinks or something? I'm 45 but my father and older brother used to take me everywhere so I know some of the old joints. Bob and Jakes, Smitty's Bar, The bar at the top of the Republic Tower, Rip's Huddle.

that would be Two Jacks...served Italian and chinese food...never tried that one...I just pictured General Tso's Lasagna and that talked me out of it The Top of The Tower was one of the better restaurants in town in the 70's....Where is LSUDAD when I need him.

Carlo's is a great man....way ahead of his time...he was in that restaurant early morning till late at night every day...Invented LaMex...cooked his chips in coconut oil...next time you see him ask how much for one of his wifes cheesecakes...no matter...it's worth it.

Europe's was across the street but it was also something else before that and I think towards the end Joey Distefano cooked there.

I miss some of those old joints. I'd give my right arm for The Village carbonara or Jack Sabin's ribeye.
