La Chilanga (at the former location of Fuzzys) was pretty good.

The wife and I went there for dinner. Seemed pretty authentic, had a good sized menu. Not many Mexican restaurants have Tortas, but this place did. All of the workers were Hispanic and my table and one other were the only non Hispanic people in there so that makes me feel like it’s a bit more authentic.

Had the guacamole as an appetizer, was good but needed a little salt. The margarita was one of the better ones I’ve had, very smooth. I got the Chile Rellano with Steak and the wife got the Carne Asada. Both of our meats were a little on the tough side but the flavor was all there. I hope they stick around bc Baton Rouge needs a better choice of “Mexican” restaurants.

Also saw Scott Woodward there, he was sitting at the bar by himself. Wanted to grill him on why they charge a $10 delivery fee for mobile season tickets, but thought I should let him enjoy his dinner in peace.

I’d give it an 7/10, and will definitely be going back.

Cool deal. Was crazy how fast Fuzzys turned and closed down.

Is it a short order or do they come wait on you?

I’ve been waiting to hear something. It’s a table service restaurant with waiters? I was hoping it would be a counter service like Fuzzy’s, which I prefer for lunch, but I figured it wouldn’t be.

They come and wait on you, the former order area at fuzzys is now a bar with barstools (where Scott was sitting)

There are plenty of good authentic Mexican joints in BR

Not a sit down restaurant, but that taco truck on Gardere by the tire shop I always thought was really good and cheap.

I agree - was honestly shocked that a place with tacos, nachos, and margaritas with extra shots and little bottles of corona couldn’t make it right off campus. That place contributed to my abs not showing.

I honestly thought it was great. They had really good queso and chips, and really freaking good shredded pork tacos. I also really liked their hot sauce and would generously apply to the tacos. The margs were solid as well for what it was. RIP Fuzzys, way better than Torcys imo.

I think El Tio on Burbank right at Gardere has really solid food too and it's also cheap. Building is pretty dumpy and it's right on the edge of the hood.

The butt burnin sauce! I liked it too.

Fuzzy's was good to me as well. That corner really turned quickly once Rouses + new apartments across the street directed the students away. Vastly different from when I was in school and that DeAngelos was really popular.

I'd be curious how Our Mom's is doing. We are always some of the only people in there when we go.

Our Mom's seems to be doing just fine. I don’t live far from there and it’s my favorite place to get a burger. Lately, I’ve been getting the shrimp philly which I think is great

I’m glad to read the good reviews of La Chilanga and will have to check it out either Friday or Saturday.

We went and will never go back. We all got some street tacos to go along with our main meal and the chicken was literally rotten. The smell was absolutely awful. I don’t see how they didn’t know this in the kitchen. I got the birria tacos as my main meal and it was ok, nothing amazing. The salsa was horrible, I hate warm salsa. It tasted more like a marinara than anything. Why did it have so much oregano? Is that “authentic?” The queso was good, especially the one with chorizo.
