Enjoy your remaining time there. We lived in Germany almost 6 years and consider it some of our best times. We traveled to Garmisch from the Frankfurt area at least once per year, sometimes more, for conferences. In addition, I had to go to Munchen quarterly. We really did enjoy German food.

I will miss the beer most. I have resolved to stop drinking beer - except when I go out or on special occasions - when at home. The good stuff is too expensive. At least I'll drop a few pounds!

but it makes me sick the thought of people waiting for three hours to eat at cracker barrel or chilis
Ok, I can identify with this statement. On a trip to Gulf Shores a few years back a family member insisted that we wait 2 hours to eat at Lamberts, home of the "throwed rolls". This was the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. Having my food thrown at me is not appealing and the food was absolutely horrible. Every time we past the place on subsequent trips I cringe.
Here is where one can find comfort in a chain. If I am traveling for business and dont have alot of time to research the area, I like to seek out Chili's. The fajitas are pretty good, the beer is cold, and you can watch ESPN at the bar while eating.

I guess I enjoy different types of chains. Places like Izzo's, Zea's, LaMadeleine, and other unique chains will get my business. However I like to always support locally owned places. I know my business is truly appreciated and I don't like being around certain types of people who frequent oliv garden, applebess, etc.

Izzo's is a chain? How many of these do they have and where?
Just curious (not bashing)
I just don't think of those - Izzo's, Zea, LaMadeleline chains...they are still semi-local.
For ex- there are restuarnats in NYC that have 3 or 4 locations, but I still consider them to be local b/c they aren't all over
Olive garden, Applebees, Chili's, etc-I consider chains.....perhaps there are different categories of chains...hmm....new topic???
And that being said- I do eat at chains- never in NYC and rarely- usually for lunch w/ co-workers or when travelling and can't find anything else

3 in Baton Rouge. 1 in New Orleans area now.

Semi-local? La Madeleine was started in Dallas and they have restaurants all over the place now.

You got me there...I've just never seen any around here...I did think they were a little bigger than Izzo's and Zea though- and thought twice about including it with those 2
With 4 stores in a small area, I would def not consider Izzo's a "chain" restaurant- not yet at least...

i know there are a ton in the south but i have never noticed one around NJ, NY or Cali. are they a regional chain kind of like In and Out?
btw, La Madeline on Clearview is the most reliable place in the area for fricking up large lunch orders, or not having multiple menu items in stock.

I actually went to Applebee's for lunch yesterday...I'm very tempted to post a review. Pretty sure I have not been since 1995 or so.
Didn't even have to pay for it, and I feel very cheated somehow.
