They went to a brew pub license several years ago which means they could only distribute a limited amount of beer but they could sell more on premises beer for take away. So yea, you didn't see their stuff on the shelves as much after that. I think that license served them well for several years but now it's probably a negative.

Have you been to Austin Beerworks lately? I wonder how they’re doing.

I haven't been out there in a while

I’m not a huge fan of their beers but they did distribute widely across central Texas. Their Peacemaker Ale is solid. I don’t care for the rest of their lineup.

I'm the same but do like their Sputnik stout

This is not accurate at all

Not sure how they got it. I don’t think it’s at many other stores, if any.

Yes
Turning adult places into family places was the downfall.

I think that is the opposite. Small Breweries that are failing usually have 1 main issue they sell average beer and don't have other reasons to go besides the beer like a cool setting with good food for the family. If a brewery wants to make it they either need very good beer or a cool setting Ideally you have both but you have to have at least 1 of those things.

Exactly. Look at Sierra Nevada and New Belgium in Asheville. Plenty of stuff to do for the whole family.

Having a 6 and 7 year old, if your brewery has a playground/large open outdoor space and serves food, there's a good chance I'm going to visit. The two breweries I frequent the most make the most mediocre beers ever, but they provide a good place for me to meet friends and have our kids run around for a couple hours. I'd love to visit the smaller, better breweries, but those visits are rare because of life with kids and two parents working full-time.
Sad to hear about JK. They were making legit world-class beers at one point.
