Y'all remember the place on North Blvd near North Foster.
There was a business in a house in Denham Springs a few years back that used to have some pretty good ones, but they're gone now.
Had some from Pimanyoli's on Airline today, and they're awesome, but you can't get a large to go order unless you order the day before. They only allow 30 a day for take out orders.

I remember going to that place as a kid. Didn't they have fairly large tamales?

It was called Muffuletta's. Tamales served from big pots full of bright red liquid (a-k-a grease), that stained the butcher paper coming off a huge roll in order to wrap up those beauties. All prepared while watching a blurry old tube-TV.
Hey, they had a diverse menu: meaning you could also get Bud in a can to go with your dinner.
Good Gawd was that good stuff...
ETA: bonus points if you recall what iconic BR restaurant was just across the street. It's still around, just ain't dere no more (at that location).

Yes it was great. My parents used to send me to get them. "Go get a sack of tamales son." Man those were good. And yes they were big.
Closest I've found are the "wet" tamales at Mr. Taco just over from Pimanyolis. That is the only way I can eat them as the others always seem to dry. But those are like them with the red sauce.

BTW, in looking for how to spell the name (no idea if I am even close) I found this long TD thread from 2013: Remembering old BR restaurants

That's called Delta Style or Southern Style tamales.

I knew I was messing up the name. Thanks for the correction.
The place was like fast food to us when I was a kid. No trip to grandma's house on Esplanade was complete without some tamales. Or some Joe-D's fried chicken and hot sausage po boys.

I have not been able to find anything close to Muffalatto's.
The parents have died. The son is not capable of much. The daughter is a good family friend and refuses to give up the recipe. She's holding it close to the vest, but she is not interested in running a restaurant.

I used to eat those a lot as a kid. My family had a business on North Blvd for a long time and my dad would bring home Muff's hot tamales and Joes D's chicken for dinner every week.

Hate to hear that.
Damn, how many people would love to get their hands on that recipe.

Been searching through some old threads lately. Someone said Cantu's in Denham Springs had the same tamales.

That was the place in Denham I reaferred to. They closed down several years ago, at least.
