NO. A sandwich must have an easily separated interior and exterior. Ergo, a corn dog does not pass the test. Neither does a meat pie. Or, for that matter, does a boudin ball.

That is sick.

IMO, a hot dog is not a sandwich. Bread and meat does not a sandwich make.

So open-faced sandwiches are not sandwiches despite the apparently misdescriptive name?

Correct.

So, a roast beef poboy is a sandwich but an open-faced roast beef sandwich is not? Taxonomy of sandwiches is tough and apparently arbitrary.

Meat or some other featured food between 2 or more pieces of bread = sandwich.

What if I take ham lay it on one piece of bread and fold it over? Not a sandwich?

Sandwich, because there's bread on top and bottom.

It fails the test, though. It is meat, but not between two pieces of bread. Same for a hot dog. It is meet between one piece of bread.

By definition:

A sandwich is a food item consisting of one or more types of food placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein two or more pieces of bread serve as a container or wrapper for some other food.

A hot dog bun is 2 pieces of bread. Not my fault if you don't separate them properly. The ham folded in one slice of bread can be considered a sandwich because there's bread on top and bottom.

A burrito is a sandwich too, even though there only 1 piece of bread.

This is the line of demarcation between strict and loose sandwich constructionists.

I fall in with the loose constructionists. Any meat/filling encased up to 180' is some form of a sandwich.

Ok. So is a pig in a blanket a sandwich? How about a Kolache?

In a loose sense, yes they are sandwiches, as are tacos and burritos. It's less a sandwich if the bread is cooked around the featured food, like a corn dog, kolache, pig in a blanket, boudin ball or tamale.

Is batter fried chicken a sandwich?

Corn dog is considered a vegetable, DUH!

Why is a sausage dog on a bun considered a Poboy, but a hot dog is not?

If I make a turkey sandwich and turn it 90 degrees so the bread is on the SIDES instead of the Top and Bottom, it is no longer a sandwich?

Unless you call the open-faced roast beef sandwich "deconstructed" then you are good with the foodies.

It's a sandwich on its side, of course. I think you're trying a little too hard.
