From spending a lot of time going to New Orleans over the past year or so (pretty much every week), I realized I haven't even scratched the surface on what I'm interested in trying there. And furthermore, a lot of them change their menus so often that a return visit would be like a new one.
Yeah I've lived here for about 2 years now and I still haven't scratched the surface of the food scene.
When I want to drop 100 bucks on a meal for 2, there are literally hundreds of awesome options, all which will be unique unless you've lived here all your life or you spend thousands of dollars a month on your dining experiences.

Plus, don't you live walking distance of a bunch of great places?
I <3 New Orleans.
Which I know this isn't the point of the thread. Of course the two cities aren't comparable. But I just wish the list of BR restaurants was full of inspired/different places. I'm not necessarily asking for a high number of restaurants, just better ones in the place of many.

I enjoyed living down there. I must have had Parkway or Liuzza's at least once or twice a week. I also lived within walking distance of a bunch of the stuff across from Tulane's football stadium.

So say its because of the availability and not because they're LSU students. Switch the options around on each campus and I guarantee you the AM mart would be crawling with Tulane students.
What?
It isn't about availability. Availability exists when there is Demand. Currently, there isn't enough demand from LSU students to support interesting cuisine. I believe the NOLA dining scene is part of the allure for out of town college students. It sure as hell was part of my reasoning for leaving Baton Rouge as fast as I did.

South Louisiana is the best food region in the world.
woah now
Name a better one per capita?
South of France (6.8 million people)?
Catalonia (7.5 million people)?
Bavaria (12.4 million people)?
Tuscany (3.7 million people) is one of the few legit competitors.
Per capita, Endiburgh, Scotland has an eclectic foodie scene. Fresh organic ingredients from a multitude of genres with fantastic chefs and overall awesome food. Population less than 500k...would recommend that city to anyone.
Plus they have a castle that's 3,000 years old. Christ that's an old city.
Eta: this thread has been great

About a 1/2 mile walk from my crib:
Dominique's, magasin, lilette, bouligny tavern, baru, pascal manale's, casamento's, Dick & Jenny's, upperline, la petite grocery, apolline, superior seafood, koyoto, la Thai, baie rouge, I'm sure I'm missing more.
To obrahs point, the neighborhood restaurant scene destroys the FQ.

Pretty sure I have tasted all New Orleans has to offer and will consider myself an expert on most cuisine.
Their gumbos suck, jambalaya is a joke, bread has the texture of being on the counter all day, can't use the double the tax to figure out minimum tip, water taste like crap, and the ice down all beer glasses.

What part of NOLA is Savannah in ?

I wish Acme BR would close and something else would take over that building that is unique...
Has anyone tried the Grill on Perkins where the old Galatoires use to be?

Well No shite. I was referring to obrahs post comparing neighborhood restaurants where locals dominate to the tourist scene in the FQ.

take tulane and loyola out of the city and the food scene doesnt change one bit

Currently there is pretty much zero room to open up a place by campus to offer these options. There isnt much available commercial property in the area. The property that has been available the last few years is so expensive that pretty much only corporate chains can fill the spots.
The last few spots around campus have become a chipotle, five guys, sonic, taco bell. Those places suck but theyre probably making a killing because of the location.

Very small part, maybe. I think nola being viewed as a 'party town' is going to be the large portion of the reason for people choosing those schools (besides obvious school reasons).

I think the billboard really helps them out for those traveling on I-10.
I think the place is complete shite though. Hopefully they pack up shop and decide to sell it and someone with a new idea\concept comes in.
I am actually curious how many people from GD, Southdowns, and the surrounding neighborhoods actually still dine there.
Jubans location, IMO, is hidden but does well.
