Pay $4.99. Get paid to stay home. I call that an investment in sanity. I generally do one of those about October and another around April. Mental health is important. Let it be said that I never miss work otherwise. I'm not a COMPLETE deadbeat.

I do the smell test on all meats I'm unsure of. If it smells fine, I'm eating it

I'd have just give it the ole smell test......not much different than when you bring home a random from the bar

I'd have eaten it. It's not going to spoil to the point of making me ill in a matter of a few hours inside of an air conditioned home. At least not to the point that cooking (even med rare) won't fix

Too late. The idea of it won. I tossed.

Good Lord woman.

FWIW, I would have cooked it up to medium and eaten the hell out of it.

I'd have eaten it, but wouldn't have served it.

With three units I still could never achieve that in summer here.

Sounds like you tossed out some perfectly good chili meat.

This very thing happened to me yesterday. Sent the wife a text to pull out some deerburger meat yesterday morning. I assumed she would put it in the fridge. She put it in the sink. When I got home is was completely thawed and not very cold. There was a brief bit of contemplation, then it got spaghettied. Tasted great with no noticeable side effects afterwards..

I'd have eaten it without a second thought, although I think my stomach may have adapted to my questionable eating habits. Oh, those leftovers have been sitting out all night, don't mind if I do.

Think of it like this. You at least know it was only out a few hours. Things happen in restaurants all the time without people knowing. A major restaurant on Bluebonnet operated for four months with half the line coolers off, and bags of ice on the top layer of meat. I would hit it with the IR thermometer and get readings above 55* on the surface.
(a kitchen is hot)
That was pretty sick to me. At most it needed a compressor, I never got why it was down so long, with at most a $650 repair.

You're probably right. Something about not knowing makes it better though.

I'd have used it in spaghetti or something, but I wasn't going to the store for $2 worth of meat. Either way, I mentally couldn't have done hamburgers.

I'm much better with cooked food than raw. I have no problem with cooked food that has been left out while sleeping. When people make a face, I remind them that when you go to a party or tailgate, the food sits for hours and people graze all day
