If InBev buys them and nothing changes as far as flavor I will still buy the product, if it changes, well I have other options.

If you’ve convinced yourself there’s nothing wrong with InBev owning these breweries, good for you.
As for me, frick InBev and frick those breweries who sold their souls to the devil. And frick those “independent” distributors with giant Budweiser and Bud Light signs plastered on the side of the building.
I don’t want to support anything they have their hand in. Good for you if you can look past it.

This is the only part I’d disagree with.
Founder has a chance to set his family up for generations. It’s a business, not a hobby. They’d be stupid not to sell.

US laws generally prohibit the manufacturers from owning the retail establishments, except for your small brewer tasting rooms and such.
UK allows it, and that's why there are fewer and fewer freehouse pubs. Most are captive or "tied houses" owned and operated by a big brewery and sell mostly their brand of beer.
I like our system better on this point. The rest of our three-tier system sucks and screws the consumer out of choices.

Don't you support those distrubutors every time you buy a beer off the shelf or pimp their products for them?
Lets not pretend that Inbev is the only company that uses lobbyist to gain a competitive advantage. You still support companies that do the exact same thing.

Which is exactly why I want to see self distribution for these small breweries so I don't have to support those distributors.

How does this work. Serious question.

It's a hypocritical stance.
Boycott the big breweries and distributors by ONLY buying directly from the brewery itself.

Great business opportunity for someone to start a distributor that charges for delivery and stays out of the politics.

Or an opportunity to be found dead somewhere.

You still need a distributor for the breweries in La to have their footprint.
It does allow for some smaller breweries (Courtyard, Parleaux, Brieux Carre) to get restaurants and bars that would bring a lot more dollars.

It doesn't. Breweries want (and they should have the ability) the option to bypass the distributor and sell directly to retail. This especially would be nice for smaller breweries.
State senators had a senate bill in a committee last month to review and tabled it that would have made it possible.
The brewers came out to lobby but so did the distributors. This bill was dead before it hit their table.
There will probably, eventually, be a compromise.
Small breweries benefit the most with a change.
Most breweries need a distributor. If you see what NOLA brewing is doing, they are hitting up Htown with the small batch releases. They want to keep 365 product on the shelf over there and need the distro to make that happen in the current climate.

How WOULD it work.
Meaning, how would a small place ever get product out of their own neighborhood without a distributor?

It doesn't in the current context.

Pickup truck? Van? The bar comes and picks it up.
Barrelproof is close enough they would probably just walk it over.
A lot of places would be good with it staying within 5 miles and not having to run a bar to sell it.

Load it up in a van and drive it to the places that want it.
Seems pretty simple to me.
Once they started getting outside of their metro area, then it makes less and less sense to self-distribute.

That's why I put "out of their own neighborhood" in the context.
I'm no expert, but buying vans, insurance, salaries for someone to drive beyond a few miles is expensive as hell. That was my point.

Again, that was my whole point and why I asked how it could work. This whole self distribute discussion is basically for local distribution?

Yes. Kind of the point.
There are several homebrewers that have setups big enough to dip their toe in and start getting name recognition.
As it is now, you basically need a million dollars to get to the size that a distributor takes you on and sells your product.
So, you have to go all in and that keeps out people (such as BMoney) who have a shot at small time brewing, but shouldn't have to risk everything to do it.
Bottomline, not everyone wants to be a millionaire off a brewery. If you wanted to start a hot sauce company you have virtually no hoops to jump through.
