I have more experience with the BGE and it is great. Friend got a Primo and it seems just as good. I doubt you can go wrong with any of them.

I have a dumb question -- how do you keep the smoker temp regulated? Is it strictly wood burning?

I ask because I can never figure out how you keep the temp up if it's coal fired.

those pots are a lot harder to find than you would think. also, they are a lot more expensive than that clip leads you to believe

it's controlling the vents. they burn off of lump charcoal that holds temperature much better in combination with the heavy ceramic lining

It is really easy. There is a vent on top and one on bottom allowing for air flow that are adjustable. Wide open you can get the temp up to 700-800 degrees. Barely open you can keep the temp at 220-240. Takes a little time to dial in the desired temp but once you do it stays at the temp for the most part.

No it is lump charcoal and you can add wood to it for smoking.

I got my dad one of those a few years ago. I am 4+ years into using a Primo Oval XL and have had nothing short of a great experience with it. The multiple grill grate cooking setups and firebox dividers are a big plus compared to other ceramics.

I have a BGE and have cooked a lot on a friend's Primo. BGE has a lot more accessories such as racks, heat directors, etc. that you can buy if that's important to you. It's not to me. You can cook more on a Primo of the same size due to it being oval. Between the Primo and the BGE, I would buy which one I could get the cheapest.

I have a Primo Oval Jr that I like a lot because of the shape of the grilling surface, but if I were to buy one now, I think I would get the Grilldome because of the stainless hardware.

Website ShoppersChoice has a good selection of ceramic cookers with free shipping. They are located in BR though so Im guessing you will still get hit with tax.
