Big green egg is a toy. I would love to get one as a gift to fart around on but they are completely impractical for everyday use. Its good for pulled pork, brisket, etc but i can cook a better steak with my cast iron and oven. My friend has one and I laugh every time he can get only fit 4 burgers at a time on it.

For those saying it's too hard to cook good steak on a charcoal grill, I say wtf? Maybe I'm just good on a grill, but it's by far my favorite way to cook and eat a steak. Can 't beat th flavor

Why is that funny? It does certain things well. It doesn't provide a significant advantage in any way to justify its cost. It's surface area is tiny as well.

You do know there are different sizes right? I can do at least 8 burgers on mine.

It's not the grill's fault that the steak was cooked 35 minutes.

Congrats. I can fit 16 on my grill and it cost a third less. I wouldn't expect someone who paid for one themselves to say "yeah, it's a glorified $800 smoker". What advantage does it have to make it worth the cash? I've yet to have anything superior come off of one.

I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you but the BGE does everything superior including smoking, grilling, and baking. Lights fast, uses very little coal, and last a lifetime. Maybe your padnuh doesn't know how to cook on it?

You will go through 4 cheapo grills while I'm still on BGE #1 so your complaint about overpriced is irrelevant.

BGEs are awesome. I don't have one, but I'd love one. A few friends have them and they are extremely nice. Unless you have 10 years to live the price is easily justified.

I use a Weber kettle with great results, but it's just a grill. And I can't get near the temps that a BGE can.

All of that said, nobody is trying to force anyone to buy a BGE so why doesn't everybody relax?

Completely relaxed.... but anyone who calls a BGE "just a toy" obviously doesn't know a goddamn thing about cooking.

As I've said, I would gladly accept one as a gift. They just don't do anything I can't already do with my "shitty" equipment. Every person who has one sounds exactly like you. Like you are trying to justify something to yourself. My point was simply that while they light fast with less charcoal, the food tastes the same coming off one as it does coming off of any cheap grill/smoker anywhere. If that's worth it to you, kudos.

I've just seen people try to cook a ribeye like some chicken or ribs or pork chops before more than once .
I don't get it.
Fire isn't hot enough it's a terrible waY to cook a piece of beef IMO.
Slow cooked, flipping init 3 or 4 times

sounds like you hang out with some terrible cooks. I've known better than this since I was 15 and i'm far from a gourmet chef.

FWIW, I use the skillet and the grill. Heat the skillet til it's blazing hot. Sear ribeyes 30 sec per side then move to the grill 3-4 minutes per side. Flipping one time.I've done it with both gas and charcoal. Charcoal just tastes better.

No offense, but I don't think anybody sounds as if they are trying to justify anything to themselves or anybody else for that matter. They sound like have a product that they really enjoy.

That was your point? I thought you said it was an impractical toy.

He's right.... I just pushed my BGE into the pond! Going buy a $40 old Smokey, it does everything the BGE does, right?

I never said it was an impractical toy, but keep saying that to justify your arguement.

It's something that costs a lot that provides no significant advantage over anything I already have. If you have one and enjoy it, good for you. The whole point of this was to refute when people make statements like they can produce something that can only be done with one, which is false.

I GUARANTEE you that anything I cook on a ceramic cooker will come out more moist than if it were cooked on a regular grill. Fact.

I'm done arguing goddamnit! If you're happy with your grill then cheers to you.

We need a F&D grill master cook off
