This is a tough one. On one hand they’re like hookers—I pay them and pray they leave. On the other hand, if I don’t pay them they are unlikely to molest me with their cacophony for the rest of my meal.

This. Didn't ask them to come by my table and play, and don't really want them to. I view them no differently than the people standing by intersections begging. If the restaurant wants to hire a band for background music, fine. But I'm not looking for anyone to stand right by my table and play.

You knew they were going to be there when you went to a Jazz Brunch.

The answer is $10. Don't like it? Don't go.

How do you tip them while they're playing? Inside the waistband like a stripper?

Maybe I just haven't been to enough of them, but I don't interpret "jazz brunch" to necessarily mean a band performing for each individual table. I have been to a couple of brunches at Commander's and have seen the band playing by some of the tables. Have never seen anyone tip. Maybe they were just real discreet and I missed it, but I don't think so.
