I really should up my 300+ mile per week average.
So you're outside the norm in that you are very athletic and in general require more calories than the typical person. OK. Do you think that a restaurant like August caters to persons in your situation to the point that their portions would be considered small?

I'm not expecting to feel like I just ate at a Chinese buffet. I appreciate the quality and experience, but I expect to at least feel remotely full. I was so hungry afterwards, we went somewhere and had wine & a cheese plate.
Do they cater to someone that exercises like I do? Doubtful, but I'm not talking about going straight from a five hour training ride to replenish 3,500 calories.

I wouldn't say it is ironic. I'd just say it explains why she is hungry.
If you don't fill up, you're always ready for the next delicious opportunity around the corner. Load up and you might not have room for it.

Quality over quantity. I'm a glutton for small plates and ordering a lot of them. Oversized entrees make me feel like a fat arse. I would much rather a well constructed dish, layered with flavors that mediocrity. And I rarely order steak when I'm footing the bill, but even then I don't want the meat sweats.

How much emphasis do you put on portion size when gauging a restaurant?
Not much. Most restaurants serve more than enough.
