Having 24 people for a shrimp burl. We will also have sausage, corn, potatoes, and people are bringing dips and such. How many pounds of shrimp should I get? I was thinking 1-1.5 pounds/ person, but not quite sure since we will have all that other food as well. Thanks guys

I think 3/4 lb per person is plenty, with other food. Shrimp are dense and filling, with less shell/head weight than crawfish.

With all the other stuff going in the boil, I'd get no more than 1 lb. per person. You're always going to have those few people who ONLY eat the shrimp, crawfish or crabs and don't touch the other stuff, but it all works out in the end, especially if women and young kids are counted.
It's the teens you have to plan for. They can be bottomless pits when it's something they like.

1 Lb per person. Any leftovers could be peeled.

According to this tiny thread in 2009, TD 2009, the crawfish tail is max 20% of the total crawfish weight. Perhaps I will test this on my next boil. I would guess closer to 10%.
I do 4 lbs of crawfish per person. So max 20% of that is .8 lbs of meat. Probably closer to a half a pound of tail. .8 of a pound is alot to eat with the the rest of the fixins for a normal person. Louisianadirectseafod.com says tail flesh to total shrimp ratio is 50%. So 2 lbs of head on will give you a pound of meat. Again, alot to eat. 1.5lbs per person should be plenty. Final Answer

I buy my shrimp by the ice chest, I headless them and then freeze them in 2 lb containers. One container of shrimp, 3 or 4 potatos, a pack of smoked sausage and 4 ears of corn will feed my family of 4 with leftovers.
If you getting whole shrimp I'd go 25lbs as long as you have some fixings to go with it.

I mean, when is it EVER a bad thing to have leftover boiled seafood? The absolute bare minimum I'm buying is 25lbs, just to round it up. I can tell you when it's bad to not have enough...
Every damn time.

Normally do 1/2 lb per person, but like others said, 3/4 to 1 lb totally fine because so many other things you can whup up later.
