If I am cooking RB&Rice, how long is too long in a crock pot? Can I put them on at 9am and eat them at 6ish? Or will the beans be mush. I soaked the beans overnight if that makes a difference.

I like when they are half mush anyway.

Yeh man that should be fine. I typically cook mine in the crock pot on high for 8-10 hours and I don't soak them.

That'll b e fine. I put mine in at 6:30am and don't eat until 6:30/7 pm.

The time really isn't that important. What really matters is counting the beans precisely.
Never add more than 239 beans to the pot.
Just one bean more and they're too farty!

Anyone who doesn't mash up their beans while it cooks is doing it wrong anyway IMO. Non-creamy rb&r are the worst. You can definitely keep them on the crock pot that long. I prefer to cook mine on the stove, however.

I do both. Put them in the crock pot all day while at work and then transfer to the stove until I get the desired texture.

This. I cook them on slow heat until they are soft enough to eat in their whole condition. Then I mash them with a regular potato hand masher for about 20 seconds. This breaks up the fiber. Then cook them another two hours till semi-creamed.
