I had dinner there tonight and when asked for my drink order I requested a Bloody Mary. The waitress said they do not serve Bloody Mary’s. I asked if it they were out of mix and she emphasized that they don’t serve them at all and it was restaurant policy. I asked why she said she did not know. Very curious to me.

Anyone have any ideas why?

Also they have a no cash policy. I had to go to my vehicle and get my wallet

You went to a California owned restaurant in New Orleans. You could just choose more wisely next time.

California restaurant? The 1st one was in Nashville and for a while they were out of Texas I believe. According to Wiki headquarters is in Phoenix.
Regardless, I’m curious why they don’t serve bloody Mary’s either.

Seems like they only serve them on weekends

Per your menu last night

Weekends only, our “Mary” with a little kick

LINK

Here’s a link from here from last year about Houston’s.

A poster did mention that they are the best managed restaurant in the nation. People seemed to agree with 7 upvotes.

I waited tables there many years ago, Veterans location. The standards were extremely high all around. I remember the day they started serving fish on the menu and personally saw the kitchen manager turn away fish day after day due to not being the freshest, and 86ing it off the menu. No small deal. The system was set up around team work and the pay was good so if you were a slacker or didn't want to comply you weren't there long.

As a side note it was really important for the owners (Biel was the only one I remember) to make it in New Orleans as it is a major player in the restaurant scene. I left before they closed the Metairie store.

Probably make their mix from scratch, and it’s cost prohibitive to do other than for brunch

Didn't Houston's have a problem with people eating half the meal or most of it and claiming that it was not good and refusing to pay for it?

This happens a lot at seafood platter restaurants. I’ll let you guess the demographic

One of the few chain restaurants that always made the cut in New Orleans.

More often than not very solid, that goes for both the St Charles and late Vets location (Boulevard American Bistro = derivative twats)

the Houston's on St Charles has added many steps to keep out undesirables. You cant book more than a 4 top, for instance.

Their crab cakes are the best I’ve ever had.

I witnessed them comp a ridiculous amount of meals my 1st few years there then they wisened up. I also remember a good friend being fired after pulling an undesirable shift for a friend (Sunday lunch - the church crowd) and throwing the coin change they left on an $80 tab at them in the parking lot. He was our hero that year.

is this HIllstone?

I've been to Napa a bunch and remember walking in to a restuarant a few years back and I swear I had stepped into Houston's in Houston. Sure enough, same damn company. It was the smell of the grill when you walked in that gave it away.

I guess it’s working for them? But there are tons of groups more than 4 that don’t fall into that category.
