Family of 6 (3 young kids under age of 5). Staying about 10 min northwest of the Houston Zoo. Searching old threads and the Original Ninfa's on Navigation seemed to be the consensus #1 pick. Does this still hold true?

El Tiempo or Tony’s.

Has Ninfa's on Nav gone down hill or something? It used to be excellent not long ago but I havent been since Covid I dont think.

It’s just ok these days, there are a couple menu items that are only at Ninfa’s they do well(tacos de pulpo)…same with El Tiempo lately, their carnitas are about the only thing that separates them from others…there are too many inconsistencies across all their restaurants.
Candente is my go to these days.

Ninfa’s, El Tiempo and Candente are all great choices. Truth BBQ and The Pit Room are great for BBQ. You can hang out during the day near the zoo and pick up some tacos from Tacos Tierra Caliente next to W Alabama Ice House on West Alabama. Those are all close to the area you’re staying.

With 3 little kids I would recommend Mia’s for a more casual spot. Really family friendly, and good food.

With kids I’d go to Crisp for Italian

Mia's is great…my wife and I ate there before we had kids.
Little Matt’s in West U is also a great spot.

You could also head to The Post(hawker style food hall)…my kids (4 & 2) love it…roof top is great now that the evenings are dry/cooler.

Ended up going to El Tiempo in Webster and Mia’s Table. El Tiempo was good. Better than anything in Lafayette. $55 for 1/2 lb steak fajitas…thought that was kinda high, but most likely inflation related. Service was very prompt. Mia’s Table on Upper Kirby is a gem. That chicken fried steak with jalapeño cream gravy was fantastic. Super kid friendly. Thank y’all for the recs.

What is the consensus of Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant?
Never seen it mentioned. Ate at the one on 45 a few months ago and thought it was pretty good.
