Store bought ranch and blue cheese is all nasty as hell. I've tried them all and they are all gross. Its because they use vinegar as a preservative so it can sit on a shelf unrefrigerated.
Vinegar Doesn't belong in ranch or blue cheese. They are supposed to be bases, not acids.

Cousin's blue cheese dressing is one of the best blue dressings I've ever had. Don't know if it contains vinegar, but it's not made with preservatives. It's fantastic.

I really like the dressings I put in the link, but I've never liked ranch dressing over all. Ken's puts out some pretty good products. Does that ranch taste like Hidden Valley? I'm not fond of that one.

It tastes lighter than Hidden Valley or water down

Think I'll stick to the homemade. They're too good and easy.

Honestly you can't go wrong with buying a Hidden Valley ranch packet and following the recipe. All you need is buttermilk and mayonnaise.
It is a million times better than the store bought Hidden Valley and any other store bought ranch dressing. It is restaurant quality.

This can be used for dressing or dip:
Chuy's Creamy Jalapeno Dip
1 quart mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip)
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup pickled jalapenos and some juice for desired consistency
1 cup green tomatillos (canned)
1/2 bunch cilantro
2-3 packs original Hidden Valley Ranch Mix (buttermilk kind)
Mix in a blender until smooth.
Want chipotle ranch dressing / dip? Add some chipotles in adobo sauce to your liking.

I always liked Texas Roadhouse's ranch (they make it in house). Here's a copycat recipe of that:
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
1 dash dried minced garlic*
Mix well and refrigerate
*Instead of the dried I've used a little roasted garlic instead.

I'm also a fan of the Hidden Valley Ranch packet mix, but I don't follow the instructions (1 cup mayo; 1 cup milk).
I use maybe a couple tablespoons of mayo for thickening, and the rest is yogurt (mainly) and milk. It makes a much lighter dressing that tastes even better to me.
I just saw on their site that they now offer mixes geared to making with Greek yogurt to cut calories. Have not seen that in stores, but it's not needed. Just use the regular packets.
