Does anyone have a good black IPA base recipe that they would be willing to share?

Wookey Jack clone we've brewed before was:

14# 2 Row Base
2# Rye
8oz Carafa III
8oz Rye 50L
8oz Roasted Wheat

I was just told that this past Sunday Session they talked about BIPA and since work is really slow with Fall Break I will probably take a listen.

They did. Central cost did their Black RyePA and they loved it. Think it was mid-to early in the episode.

I used the following for a big black IPA inspired by the Stone 15th Anniversary one. Brought it to WYES last summer.

15 lbs 2-row
1 lb Crystal 120
12 oz Carafa III
12 oz Chocolate malt
2 oz Columbus 90 minutes
2 oz Citra 15 minutes
1 lb dark candi sugar flameout
3 oz Citra whirlpool
2 oz Pacific Jade whirlpool
California Ale V yeast
3 oz Nelson Sauvin dry hop

So my buddy and I are looking for a book that will explain and educate us on the intricacies of brewing.

What are your suggestions? We want something that breaks everything down simply but also goes in depth into each part of the process.

Thanks in advance.

Palmer's How To Brew. It's available online for free. He walks you through making a batch of beer then backs up and explains what you're doing and why.

Listen to LST. I think most of us got started with How to Brew. Hell, we still all reference it after brewing for a while. Palmer makes it simple for first timers, but has chapters that go in to some depth. Look up the free version, use his directions for your first batch, and enjoy.

It appears to be a fairly slow week in the TD brewing world. I may get a beer brewed this weekend. All depends on how my plans develop for either day. Either going to brew a stout or a black ipa. I need something dark at the house to drink.

Lots of kegging and transferring and blending going on at our place.
4 beers to keg.
Need to blend a little Gose into our wheat beer called Wheat Tart.
What did you ever find out about the black IPA recipe?

Not as much as I was hoping. They gave the stout recipe %'s away but not the hopping schedule; but for the BIPA they gave the hopping schedule away but not the grain bill other than 7% is a combination of Carafa III and Blackprinz.

Just getting over a sinus thing, the stomach flu, and now a persistent cough. Sort of lost any motivation to brew or even drink beer for a few days. Today i may tempt fate and drink a beer.

Yep. I bought ingredients last Friday to brew on Saturday. But the subsequent trick-or-treat party hangover and general crappy weather left me inclined to watch football instead. Been too busy since. I may brew Thursday after work. Or not.
