I am hosting our club brew tomorrow so I am brewing a Dark Czech Lager, 3 step mash. Pretty excited about it. Need to do some carbonating and bottling this weekend. Not much else going on. Bought grains to build some English beers. About to buy 7 lbs of hops to restock.

I also know of a full kegging kit on sale from a buddy. 2 ball lock kegs, regulator, co2 tank for 190 if anyone is interested.

I really would take it. But i'm on a spending freeze for a little while. If he still wants to sell it in 2 weeks i'll definitely take it.

Also, how do you guys aerate your wort? I've been doing the ole, grab the carboy and shake the shite out of it. Is it worth the $30 to spend to get a pump and aerating hoses and stones?

How long do you usually run the pump?

I almost bought it from him just because. Then I decided to not spend that kind of cash for no reason.

Pure O2 and a stone.

I personally like that setup a lot and wouldn't bother with the pump.

Blast it with a minute of Pure 02 and seal it up. Very simple and the tank has lasted me a long time so far.

I think i'm ordering my ingredients today for my oatmeal stout. It will be about 7%.

I am going to shoot for just over 5% for mine. Something I can start drinking early

Just ordered, mine's about 6.5 to 6.8. Depending on how well the yeast attenuates. OG is about 1.07. I want it to finish between 1.16-1.24. The goal i guess, would be 1.020.

I need to lock down a brew date, so i can go ahead and roast my oats. May do that monday, and let them air out for a week or 2.

Anyone got a solera?

I've got a fantasy draft and then I'll be grabbing 30lbs of grain on the way home. I plan to brew two 7 gallon batches to put in the 15 gallon fermenter. I'm going to sour wort one 7 gallon batch to give the 1st pull a nice twang but it shouldn't be sour. That will also lower the pH of the solera to add another barrier to keep unwanted bugs at bay.

I will do the 1st pull of 6 gallons early, in about a month, and dry hop it with citra. Then I'll top it off with a batch of base brew and a starter built up from a JK Boxers Revenge. Then I won't do a pull for 6 months or so.

Brew on, brother. We need pictures of this beast of a process. Any oak going in to that?

I was hoping to brew today, but it looks like I'm going to get rained out.

I'm on northern brewing a website and about to pull the trigger. Should I go ahead and spend the money on the delux kit, or just start off with the essential kit?

The essential looks fine. Most of us started out with very similar set-ups.

You don't have to have one. Buckets work fine. Only problem with buckets is you can't fuel your curiosity and watch the beer ferment.

Awesome. Glad to hear it.

Brewed a robust porter on Friday night and I'm about to brew a pumpkin pie porter today.

Add on a plastic 6 gallon Carboy. It's nice to be able to see what's going on.
