How did your DIPA finish?

I didn't have any attenuation issues, but I pitched a big starter anticipating issues. Started at 1.072 and finished at 1.012.

I plan on being about OG 1.058, FG 1.012, with no starter. (about 6%)

Since I now work in Beaumont but live in BR on weekends, Ive really had a hard time making time for brewing. And when I have brewed I just never bottle/keg it.

I need to get back on the horse soon cause I miss it.

I went a good 4 months at the beginning of the year without brewing while i was building the deck. However, once i finished, i've been brewing a little more rapidly. I brew about 6 batches/year. I've brewed 4 so far, have 2 recipes created and waiting, and have ideas for 2 more before the year is out. One being a rebrew of last years Jolly Klaus Christmas IPA. Plus i have to brew one for my brother in law for his tap system.

Here's a question. We have a "desk nook" near an entryway from the garage in our house. It goes mostly unused, except to put shite we don't want laying out, on that desk. I had an idea of maybe converting that area into a sort of bar/serving station type area. I was thinking about getting a small 2 keg, kegerator and putting it there. I believe the opening (opening for a chair) will work, and pretty sure the opening is the right height. I will have to drill a hole for inserting a tap tower. My question: I am worried about the fridge overheating due to the space it's in. Is this a legit concern or am i worrying about nothing?

You worry too much?? never!!

I think it would be ok. If you have issues you can always add a fan back there to circulate some air.

Hey, my homebrewing worries have pretty much ceased this year.

What would you be drilling the hole in?

I told myself I would be patient with this saison, not even check it for two weeks, then let it go until the week before the LSU/Wisc game regardless as to where the gravity was, but I really want to start drinking this beer soon.

Was just curious if you were cutting the hole for the draft tower. Won't be able to slide it out unless you've got a U shaped cut out.

Built the first stage of the starter for the brew day Saturday evening. Brewing 10 gallons of a Vienna for Oktoberfest. Picked up 4 expired vials of Mexican Lager at LA Homebrew yesterday and all 4 went into a 1000mL starter.

Also grabbed a package of the GigaYeast Vermont IPA. Buddy and I were talking about making a big DIPA so I figured that would be a good yeast to use.

Cool... but it's not fun to think about brewing a lager when it's 94F.

I need to start planning for this fall brewing season though. We've signed ourselves up for lots of competitions and festivals.

Luckily I will use the chest freezer that I purchased specifically to lager for the first time as a lager fridge. Picked up a 13 gallon fermentor from Boo so that I can do all 10 gallons at once.

There you go. Not a bad way to do it. Knock it all out at once.

That's right. Didn't think about that. Hmmm...

Probably just need an inch or so on each side of the fridge for proper cooling. Could look great if it's done right.

If you have limited space and still want to circulate air behind the fridge, you could put a laptop cooling fan behind it..

They are quiet, do a great job moving air, and are low profile so you wouldn't need much room.

The power on those is typically USB, but any old USB phone charger will power it.

So details are a little hazy at the moment, but I heard tonight that there might a homebrew brew-off in New Orleans on Oct. 2 or 3. Open to anyone. Benefits charity. Prizes awarded. Will be voted on by attendees. I'll post more when I know more. I know that's the week before Brew at the Zoo, so might be tough for some BR people.

Interesting.

I have started thinking about Dixie Cup entries and if I am interested in entering anything. It's a little late notice for the first weekend in October no?
