I have 3 chest freezers dedicated to beer. one is built out as my kegerator and one is the fermentation chest. The other I bought as cold storage and it ended up being one of the old style 5 cubic ft one and it is a square, so it holds 4 kegs perfectly.

what is a typical water:grain ratio? I've read older posts on here using 1.25, and read as much as 1.5 or 2.

I am lazy and use roughly 4.5 gallons for every beer I make, unless it is really small or really big.

I think I have 1.33 punched in to beersmith.

I am going to dry hop the wheat beer that has been in the fermenter for awhile now. Any suggestions on how many ounces of hops I should put in? 1, 2?

Thanks

I don't know if I would put 2, unless you wanted it to be closer to in your face hops than just a touch. I think 1 would be enough.

Thanks. Will pellets or whole cone work best for dry hopping or does it matter?

It doesn't matter, whole hops will soak up more beer so I typically stay away from dry hopping with whole hops, but if that is what you have then go right a head.

My local home brew shop should have both. I'm gonna go with cascade.

I like pellets for dry hopping. I like pellets for anything, really. Except french press infusions. Then I go leaf. If you use pellets to dry-hop, use a hop sock and go in knowing clarity will take a hit.

Thanks. The beer isn't very clear anyway. Wasn't really expecting it to. This is my first all grain batch so I'm pretty excited to get this thing ready to drink. Is there a set timeframe I should let the dry hop set? The beer has already been in the fermenter for a little over a month(haven't felt like messing with it until this week)

as far as I can tell there isn't a set anything when it comes to brewing

go at least 3 days, up to a week. I've dry hopped a week then hit it again with another round for another week, but I could have probably gotten the same results in half that time

Truer words have never been spoken.

I brewed a brown ale last night. Gotta have it ready in 2 1/2 weeks, so weeknight brewing had to be done. Tired this morning.

Taste testing some La homebrew Zapps beers...

They are going to have some killer stuff on tap.

Eta: Chico should be sending out a newsletter to subscribers soon w/ a tap list preview and an "off menu" special beer.

I agree. Heady Topper is dry hopped for 4 maybe 5 days per the brewer.

sticky requested again

anyways, finally got a decent lead on a fridge, so the kegerator conversion may happen Saturday after visiting True Vine Brewery in Tyler, or on Sunday. Looks like the Rye IPA will be kegged.

now to decide whether to bottle a few before kegging or afterwards

Good deal. Kegged our RyePA last night for Zapp's tomorrow.

Only problem with bottling some and kegging some is getting sugar right for bottles.
