Sorry for going off-topic but I didn't want to start another thread. I have been wanting to try homebrewing and saw that groupon had a deal, $64 for everything here. I was wondering if this would be a decent starter kit for my first run. Thanks

That would work for a first run... just keep in mind you'll still need a brew pot, and bottles.

looks like it would work, but like Boo said, you still need a brew pot and bottles

that page said you would need 54 12 oz bottles

do any of y'all bottle in 12 oz bottles?

I have in the past... but not anymore. I keep enough bombers and flip-tops around to bottle a few batches if I choose but it's almost all kegs. And certainly not messing with the small bottles.

That's all i bottle in. I was worried about bottling in bombers, due to the explosion factor. About how much room do you need to leave from the top for a bomber?

Still up in the air. But its a long process. So it will consume most of the evening.

I don't know why i've never thought of using bombers before. That would make bottling much easier, until i start to keg, which might be what i request for christmas.

we filled them just about to the top, some all the way to the top, them some over a bit. When you remove the bottling wand you get some head space in the bottle.

I assumed it would be enough room.

only having to do 20-something bottles is much easier. I think I have about 18 or 20 ready to go for my next batch, so I need to empty a few between now and then

And if you're opposed to making that short drive, you can order online from them. I know their products aren't the best, but at the price they charge and the little bit of abuse this pump takes in this set up, you can't beat the deal.

Bombers is just a name, nothing literal

If you're worried, just keep full bottle from the store next to you to compare fill lines.

My rule (for almost any bottle) is to get the beer between the bottom of the neck to half way up the neck.

Ive never had a bottle bomb.

Bombers are more like mortar rounds vs the 12 oz hand grenades.

Got a late start. Just doughed in. Gonna be a long night on the back porch. Good thing I don't have work in the morning.
