1) Pick any beer.

2) Pour a bunch of salt in it to cover up the beer taste.

3) Now it will taste like Coors. Drink it.

Wait, you bad mouth Coors but your favorite beer is Heineken? That doesn't really make sense. It is all mass marketed bland lager.

To the OP: I would suggest some of the Belgian Wit stuff that people have suggested. Maybe some brown ales. Although not the best beer Newcastle is a good transition beer. Maybe even German Dunkels or Kolschs.

Heineken is nasty, man.

I won't drink it if you're buying.

Heineken is better than Miller Chill or Bud Light Lime... that's about it. And it's not by a wide margin either.

yum

Try Chimay Red Label. Smooth and tasty. About $10 for a wine size bottle. Can be found in many places, AM Mart even sells it.

When I was younger i drank Coors and Coors Lite, eventually I became very partial to Dos Equis (lager and amber minus the lime/salt), but that seems like a long time ago. I would strongly suggest trying out an Abita Party Pack. It offers a few different styles of beer so you can expand your horizons a bit without getting stuck with an entire 6 pack. Sam Adams also makes some great beer and they sometimes sell variety packs. If I had to suggest one beer to you it would be "Anchor Steam". Most importantly, get yourself a good set of pints. Beer tastes so much better when you pour it out of a bottle and let the head develop.

If you are in south LA, you can do the same thing locally at Abita or NOLA. The NOLA Brown and Blonde are both good jumping off beers (they do tours at 2 pm on Fridays). Or go to an early tour at the Abita Brewery, and try a bunch of the different beers they have on tap. Start with Golden and Amber and work your way up to their pale ale or brown ale.

Once you have your feet in the water and an appreciation for the brewing process, then you'll probably want to move on to bigger, bolder beers.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is pretty good. Torpedo is too bitter for me.

Tsingtao

I went to China this summer and it's sad to say that Tsingtao is the Natty Light of beer. (All China beer is Natty Light-like) That stuff is awful.

sorry man this is all weak arse shite. I enjoyed all those beers when i was really young. You just have to go out and try beer. Even if i didnt like it i still drink it.

I have friends that are bud light or miller light only type guys. But if you enjoy beer, and you see a beer you never heard of at the store you buy it just to try it. You never know what might catch your taste buds.

Also you can search beer threads and they used to have a friday night beer blog.

Looks like my list of future purchases are: Red Stripe Shiner Bock and Blonde New Castle It was Sam Adams Boston Lager. I do think I lean more towards Mexican beers and lighter beers. Thanks for all of the great input!

Im wondering if you are young or where you might live. These beers are easily accessible at any circle k. would be hard to believe anyone trying to get into beer wouldnt have tried these on their own.

If you like the mexican beers stay away from tecate and go for pacifico or modelo.

If you like blue moon there are a lot of options out there.

Keep in mind you may not like some beers you try and it shouldnt deter you away from trying others.

It might cost you, but find a bar near you with a good selection and just try them. In baton rouge, there are several god places to go.

you may even like mixing diff stuff together. There is a lot to offer in the beer drinking world.
