picked up 4 bags. If its all hammer handles and bed posts I didn't waste that much cash.

Cowboy is shite. It's small. It sparks up everywhere. It burns out quickly. And you get the pleasure of digging out rocks, straps, bolts, etc... out of each bag. Cowboy is one of the worst lump charcoal brands out there.

B&B is a step up.
Kamado Joe Big Joe XL is even better.
I've also heard FOGO is really good.

Review of Cowboy Brand Lump Charcoal

Here are the contents of the bag sorted into medium, small, and too small/chips/dust.

Here you can see how much of the contents of the bag have not been completely converted to charcoal.

Pieces of plastic string found in the bag.

I wouldn’t even call it lump charcoal, it’s more like trash that didn’t or wouldn’t burn.

I literally pulled a piece of a ratchet strap band out of a bag one time. I guess they think if it's flammable, it's charcoal.

welp, picked up my 5 bags of cowboy brand lump charcoal today from Lowe's, but seems like they are shite compared to royal or fogo.

either way, they were only $4 a bag, so not much spent here. they should be good for a decent to mediocre smoke until fogo has another sale on their lump.

Cowboy burns so fast it's like kindling and produces a shite ton of ash as you have to use so much. Fogo Premium chunks are bigger than my fist and dense AF. Stuff burns so long while producing small amounts of ash it is definitely worth the price. Do like the KJ restaurant quality XL, that is great shite, similar density to Fogo.
