I have been to Stubb's before...just not for the gospel brunch. What I had of it, it was perty dern good.

I LOVE sushi, but I think I want to really try some great tex mex...so it's looking like Fonda is gonna be a winner...though more than I wanted to spend. But once I went read the carne asada description and my mouth went to instant watering, I was sold.

I'll probably be looked down upon but the best tex mex I have had was at the iron cactus. I have dreams about their beef enchiladas.

No, Iron Cactus has decent food...

But you ever eat the Carne Asada I was talking about at Fonda, then you'll forget all about Iron Catus.

Iron Catus, ZTejas, Maudies...all solid food.

I give the edge to ZTejas because of the Tostada Bites! (waiting for Stu)

Barley Swine is excellent. All small plates (about $7-13 a dish). No rez, though. Put your name on the list and go next door to the Horseshoe Lounge for a few beers & some pool while you wait.

La Condesa does a nice brunch.

Uchi/Uchiko are incredible, but expect to drop some coin.

1 casual dinner spot

Ate here over Easter, and I can't recommend it highly enough: Barley Swine (get there early to get a table, though).

ETA: Someone beat me to it.

Stubbs Gospel Brunch is also a great suggestion.

Moonshine's awesome. South Congress Cafe has my favorite brunch, though.

Definitely Torchy's at some point. Their queso is like crack.

Thanks for all of the recs! I'm thinking...

Late eats when we get in Friday night - Barley Swine

Saturday lunch - Torchy's

Saturday dinner - Fonda San Miguel

Sunday Brunch - Still tossing between Moonshine and Stubb's

Saturday lunch - Torchy's

Go to the Torchy's on 1st Street. For some reason, I like this one the best.

I just can't seem to stay away from The Salt Lick when I get anywhere near Austin. Possibly the best BBQ I have ever had that i didn't make.

tried salt lick last week for the first time as well. thought it was pretty good, but i'm certainly not a BBQ expert. i cook it at home all the time but rarely do i eat it in restaurants.

The Salt Lick is good, but Franklin BBQ is in a whole different class, IMO.

Franklin's is great as well..I give the Lick a slight edge in brisket and ribs but sausage better at Franklin's...others must have your same opinion because I was standing in line with about 20 others them at 10am for an 11:30 open time....best operating hours sign at Franlins...hand written on butcher paper..open 11:30 close when sold out usually before 2:30
