Halal Guys coming to Baton Rouge

I tried the one in Shreveport when it first opened and see no reason to return. I don't get the hype.

Austin has a bunch of those types of Halal joints, and they have better tasting meats/sauces. Buddy told me that Halal Guys opened last week in Austin, with long lines, but they are all now gone.
I think it's a mistake they aren't putting it closer to all the middle eastern students. It should be along northgate

Ate there once in Shreveport. Nothing special IMO. I forget how much it costs, but I'd rather go to a local, non-chain place.
The weirdest part was the sauce they sell with it. I was expecting a typical Grecian/Tzatziki type of sauce. Instead, it was an oil-based sauce that they give in a prepackaged packet that you would find ketchup in. I was put off after reading the label and finding out there is about 35-40 grams of fat in it

I haven't had it, but after leaving BR, a place like this is foolish to think it can compete. I didn't know how good BR's middle eastern / Mediterranean food was until I left. I'm constantly disappointed when trying other places.

Just go to your normal Mediterranean restaurant. H.g. is just faster at serving.

The original "street meat" next to the Hilton in NYC was awesome. Then again, I've never had it sober. I think it's like the "Johnnys pizza, buds broiler, Darrell's poboy" effect is in play here. A combination of timing, location, and nostalgia that can't be replicated with a franchise.

Anybody go to Po Boy Times on West Chimes since they started emphasizing Halal? They even got a hookah night now. They did have a superb shrimp poboy and fries, and they still serve poboys per the Facebook comments, but I haven't been in a while.

I thought it was the best thing ever when I got the chicken and rice plate straight from the cart at 2:30am on my first trip ever to NYC.
I've had it here in Houston,,sober, and it's good, but it doesn't and can't match the original experience.

This is a really overpriced, fatty Mediterranean option when there are SO MANY cheaper, healthier, and way more flavorful places, especially in Nola.

I haven't been since then, but not for that reason. Their food's always been pretty god, but I don't eat out that often near campus anymore.

Just think of it as a Mediterranean version of Subway and keep your expectations at that level. I prefer their chicken to the beef, and the falafel are not bad.
The white sauce they squirt on is basically mayo. The hot sauce that you get in a packet is hot as a MF. It will burn a hole in your gut.
