Willie Mae's is great but very different. I's go with Gus's but Both are great.

Comparing Gus's to Popeyes is like comparing an LPG burger to McDonalds.

I just ate Popeye's for the first time in a while and remembered this thread and someone saying Popeye's > Gus's. It is absurd to even compare it to Gus's
The chicken I just ate was terrible. The only redeeming factor of the visit was they actually had spicy chicken, and I got my food in less than 2 minutes

This looks meh .. beans look +1 meh, like out of a can

Their chicken certainly isn't "meh." It's good, but definitely over-rated. The beans are definitely meh. Taste straight from a can.

I had Popeyes last night, usually I like it but last night was pretty bad. Like eating a sponge full of grease. Luckily I threw it out instead of continuing to eat it so I did my toilet some favors

if there's one restaurant that's NOT overrated imo, it's Gus's (at least the original & Memphis locations)

Popeye's is great fast-food chicken. But Gus's chicken is on a whole different level. Give me Gus's chicken and some Popeye's sides and I'll be good to go.

the chicken is very juicy and has good flavor, but it needs more of a kick to be called spicy.

I agree with this. My side and biscuit today were better than my chicken at Popeye's, and the sides at Gus's suck

Same. I had the mac n cheese and beans at gus's and they were pretty poor compared to the chicken.

To me, Popeye's sides are what makes the place stand out among other chicken places.

May be akin to opening a Johnny's Pizza House in New York, tho.

Could be the best chicken in town and still not make it.
Please tell me you are somewhat insinuating Johnnys pizza would be the best pizza in new york

Please. Please make my weekend for me
