We've been using Heritage Food's base but it appears Rouses has discontinued offering it for sale. Any recommendations on alternatives and / or where / what to buy. I'm in New Orleans. Thanks in advance.

Zatarin's and the company that makes LA fish fry products makes one as well

I've never tried a Gumbo base though so I couldn't tell you

Oak Grove Somkehouse makes one as well that you can get off of Amazon. Their jambalaya base is surprisingly good

Cajun Power has a Chicken Gumbo that might be sold in New Orleans, haven't tried the Gumbo, but I've liked everything I did try from them.

Bluerunner

They have a whole line of bases I’ve always seen in most stores. Never tried one so I can’t comment but maybe I will now for shits and giggles.

Gumbo Base is the DRY POWDER for the base.....just add water back to it.
The Gumbo Mix is the base + rice already in it.

Why don’t you just cook a gumbo? The “base” is flour and oil, cooked until it’s dark brown. It’s really not hard.

Just make it in the oven. Oil less, flour spread our in a pan 405 for 45mins.

Something for someone who wants to cook gumbo, but has no idea how to make good gumbo.
