Down to Large BGE vs. Large Primo... $200 price difference with Primo being more.
same size? If so, I'd go BGE and spend that extra $$$ on accessories.

I, like you, struggled with this decision for years. This past May, I finally decided to go with Kamado Joe Classic (which equates to a large BGE). I wish I hadn't waited so long. It is great.

You can get a Kamado Joe Classic, with everything you need, for $780.

I bought one based on some recs on this board as well as some research and I will paraphrase what one poster said

Not sure i would go that far but it is hard to beat not matter how you chose to use it.

You need to go and see them in person. Look at the BGE and the Primo Oval XL. Your money, you decide. My suggestion would be the Primo Oval XL even if you have to add $$ or wait till you can afford. When you see the Primo Oval you'll see you can use half for direct and half for indirect cooking.
You think you only need the smaller space but when you get used to using it you will increase what and how much you cook with the versatility.

I've owned a L kamado Joe......and currently have an XL BGE........

I'd get the primo of your choices.....you'll get more cooking area and a little more versatility with the divider box and two levels of cooking.

I'd also say to go ahead and splurge for an XL of either brand. you'll want to step up to and XL shortly after buying the L.

Have an XL BGE and it is magnificent cooking 'machine.' Very versatile and forgiving. That said, the oval areas are definitely to be preferred (for racks of ribs and briskets).
