Maybe it was $17 at Costco. It was either $16 or $17 IIRC.

My CVS, which marks up most of their wine $1-$2, regularly has it on special for $16.

Yes. Cannot argue that. By that logic of jumping up $20 for quality, they might as well spend $20 more than Belle Glos and get something FIRE like EnRoute Les Pommiers or the AldenAlli Pinot Noir.

But you can keep doing that too. For $20 more you can get Flowers, Bergstrom, Hirsch, etc. $20 more than that you can get Sea Smoke.

TH03, are you a wine rep?

ETA: Speaking of Prisoner, my Vivino just sent me an offer for Prisoner as part of it's "12 Days of Wine"

For California Pinot, it's hard to beat.

Are you a rep in the BR area?

You should share the wholesale wealth! A manager of one of my departments has a son that works for a local distributor. Nice getting wines at the distributor's price.

Man this thread really needs user @JoeLeblanc to chime in with his "cultured palate". He should be able to give some pro tips for the pricey wine.

Need to have a liquor license they can send it to. When I was doing the wine and liquor orders for a restaurant, the reps would sell me whatever I wanted for personal reasons and just put it on a separate invoice.....I had soooo much wine at the time.

Damn, had you been in BR there is a serious chance we knew each other.

I miss Wednesdays when I was still doing restaurants. I didn't have work but had to go in around 2-3 pm to do all my orders and meet with the reps. Most every week I'd do different tasting with different reps and most would leave the bottles (because we were the last stop for them) for me to take home. Even when I did order for myself, I hardly ever opened my own bottles because I had to finish the wines from Wednesday.

Costco had some Freemark Abbey Cab and Miraval Rose 3 liters I wanted to grab, but I just didn't have any solid parties coming up to warrant the purchase.

The reps would ask if I wanted to take it home and since I didn't have work I'd always say yea. I'd end up drinking off of it for 2-3 days.

Eloquent wine is the cheaper Belle Gros binaural Pinot Noir.

But are great buts it’s about a 40-50 dollar difference a bottle.

My favorite under 20 dollars is Chinon “Rive Gauche” Rouge, M. Plouzeau.

It’s made with Cabernet Franc. You can get it in the French wines section at Martin’s.

Bold flavors, acidic. Pairs great with food.

We (wife and I) like red Zins from Napa. We like some Cabs as well but prefer the Zins.

Rombauer Zin. There are three or four variations all are excellent. Runs about $30 bottle.

Rombauer Cab. $50 bottle.

Cheaper Napa Zins we like are Red Tractor and Beaver Creek. Both at the $15 range.

Get into Turley zins at all?

My favorite zins are from Sonoma's dry creek valley, the rockpile appellation, in particular.

Ridge makes some great Zin dominant blends out of Sonoma as well. Their Three valleys is excellent and their Lytton springs just made spectators top 100 and was delicious.

If you haven’t tried Michael David, they have some great zins as well, although they did just sell off their flagship 7 deadly zins.

Zins provide the best value and are so versatile with food pairing. You can get a world class bottle of zinfandel for $40.
