A joke, I'm sure but the "Wild Game Gumbo" with Black Bear, Moose, Deer and Goose is damn good.

Yeah I definitely got that and probably literally ate a 3rd of the shite on the menu
All the food was great. I feel like I have diabetes now

really good, not on the menu, but they give it to you if you ask for it.
It's been on the menu every time I've been there.

When are we going to get the details of this meal?
Posted on 11/18/11 at 12:05 am to Gris Gris
Honestly I ate so much I forgot about it
I'm tired and stuffed so I'll just list the things that I tried. Maybe I'll get around to making a more detailed review later. But I'll say that I enjoyed everything very much.
So I tried...
Crack bread (didn't really see the huge deal with this) Actually enjoyed the plain French bread with butter more
Some cocktail (Mr Big shot or something of the sort...was garnished with nutmeg)
Small starter they served everyone with blackened chicken and creole cream cheese
Shrimp and Tasso Henican
Escargo w bone marrow
Holly Berry Martini
Soup 1-1-1 (gumbo of the day was a cochon de lait gumbo and was my favorite of the 3)
Bottle of some Spanish Red Wine
Truffle Gnocchi as the main course
Champagne poached crabmeat side order
Creole cream cheese cheesecake and southern pecan ice cream
Crescent City Cooler
Finished it all off with a cup of cappuccino

You certainly made the most of the experience. That's the way to do it. I love tasting lots of different things. Glad you had a good experience.

Yeah. The service and atmosphere were both excellent. That place is definitely a well oiled machine.
There were a few things that I would do different with the food but they're really nit picky type things that are more about my personal preference than anything.
I definitely think that anyone that complains about no rice in the gumbo needs to be exiled from the country. It's thick enough where it doesn't need rice and it's delicious.

Definitely slacks and a button up shirt. Coat is preferred.

I ate a bowl of gumbo without rice last night. I do it all the time. The gumbo had lots of sausage and flavor.

Ha, another food critique directed at me... Where I grew up, gumbo without rice is like red beans without rice, pecan pie without pecans etc, etc.
And you're right about being thick, its less gumbo and more cajun stew. And I truly hope you enjoyed the 1/97th ounce piece of cubed sausage and the piece of shaved thigh meat that was smaller than a midget red potato pealing.

It was a cochon de lait gumbo
I understand that gumbo without rice is strange
I'm just saying that it was very enjoyable whether or not you would consider it authentic gumbo

Count it seems like your primary problem stems from your enjoyment of very hearty meals and CP's smaller portions. Classic quantity vs. quality conundrum.

quote:Thats a big negatory R2R. My heartburn is/was their advertising something that isnt even close to gumbo. If I order stuffed eggplant with shrimp, then thats what it should be. Their gumbo is their tortue' soup, without the tortue'.

And I agree, quality over quantity in all cases, except for $100 bills.
