I’ve always been a huge fan of going to Dijulios but the food is very forgettable, the place is fantastic but if going strictly for a good meal that isn’t the place to go

Thai Pepper is my favorite — I’m still in withdrawal over their lunch buffet being eliminated

No love for Bay Leaf in this thread? Not fancy, but terrific food if your looking for something a little different. Service is not great, bit the food is.

Swagat has replaced it for me with the same quality food and better prices.

fine dining standpoint in BR

There is no fine dining in BR because the people haven’t grown up enough to realize there’s more to eating out than $5 mimosas and bloody Mary’s

Still pounding that drum huh?

So here’s a question for you to answer. What exactly to you is considered fine dining?

If you consider fine dining white tablecloth, French influenced, table side service, tasting menus then Baton Rouge has that at a very nice, elegant, classic French restaurant in Maison Lacour. That by definition is fine dining. And he’s not giving out free mimosas.

It’s also a dinosaur business model in 2021 and has been for a decade specifically in mid sized cities across not only the United States but across the globe. It’s not dead in large cities or destinations but it’s certainly a much smaller footprint.

Restaurant dining has changed dramatically in the last 20 years but apparently you don’t understand that. I used to fly on airplanes with a coat and tie and even smoke while flying. Yeah that doesn’t happen anymore. I’m of a class of diner that will wear a coat depending on where I’m dining and I’m comfortable with it. I’m the outlier. I’m also of a certain age-older than most of the dining public.

I like good food, good service, good wine and good fellowship. If I want quiet dining I know where to go. If I want a bit more lively and loud I know how to do that as well as do most people. Ethnic? I can go different areas of the globe here and have just what I’m looking for. If I want to expand I’m 60 miles northwest of New Orleans and can enjoy it’s options without paying the Latoya freight.

If you think any restaurant in a city the size of Baton Rouge can demand a coat and tie and can provide the kind of service associated with old French and Michelin models than you have no idea of the economics of the restaurant business. Which seems to contradict your proclaim of your whole family being in the hospitality industry.

And you should know $5 mimosa’s and bloody mary’s can be found at any locale across this country. Baton Rouge isn’t exclusive to this yet you seem to harp on it repeatedly. Frankly I wouldn’t know where to go to get this “special” and I’ve eaten all over this town for more than 50 years so please let me know. Hell I just might slum a little bit and partake. Or it could be on my rotation and I’ve just been missing out on those “deals.”

Not sure who around here stepped on your tampon but it must have been enough to rip it out because you’ve bled all over this thread.

This actually seems to be your problem with the length of your last reply.

Google “$5 blood Mary’s/mimosa Baton Rouge” if you really don’t know

Fine dining is somewhere where I can go and another customer doesn’t have on a LSU tee shirt

So - one place in BR - if you also don’t count the BR Country Club.

Baton Rouge should have more fine dining just based on the fact that it’s the capital city and that many other cities of the same size if not smaller can sustain it. I’m not the only one saying it, and I’m not contradicting anything - I have plenty of knowledge of the economics. With the money and people in this town, fine dining should easily be sustainable.

So you really don’t know what the distinction of fine dining actually is.

Lady if you are waiting for haute couture to return to dining, in any city, I don’t know what to tell you. That ship has sailed. We live in a wash and wear world and fashion is only going more Lululemon as we speak-and let me take a moment to point out those stretch pants aren’t for most women. Its just a matter of time before we see people in robes and slippers at dinner. Ask any dry cleaner. They can’t afford fine dining.

And for the record I had dinner at BRCC a couple of weeks ago and there were plenty of jeans and even a few with shorts.

I suggest you slip into a black Lilly Pulitzer, let your hair down and go enjoy a nice dinner at one of the many good places listed and quit worrying about what fashion statements or lack thereof, others are making.

Martini's last comment proves my point more than he thinks.

What’s your counterpoint here? We don’t have many places with a strict dress code?

I’m really struggling to see your point

Ah yes...Baton Rouge has a monopoly on Wal Mart and McDonalds. God you’re insufferable.

I’m guessing your husband has a drinking problem. If he doesn’t he should start developing one because you would give a Bufferin a headache.
