Smoking also would be prohibited in parks during public events sponsored by the city and outdoors within 25 feet of public property and within 5 feet of commercial buildings.
Does "public property" include sidewalks and roadways? Because this language would practically ban smoking across the entire city except for inside one's own home.

Please, you made the analogy you come up with an acceptable one.
Maybe offensive lyrics in music? Or perhaps fat people shouldnt be allowed near non-fat people (could fall over and harm them)? Looking forward to hearing what activity which is currently legal (one can buy cigarettes correct?) should be further regulated in the public realm?
Here is an idea. If NO City Council really wants to save lives, why not ban the sales of cigarettes in Orleans Parish? They issue licenses concerning the sale of cigarettes, it is obviously by their own admission a harmful substance, so go all the way like CVS. If they banned sales, I could get more behind that than banning cigarettes in private businesses.

Bars that have the ability to have an outside area for smoking will have an advantage over places that do not if this passed. It will cause problems in the neighborhoods that these bars are located. Where are patrons going to go to smoke if the bar does not have room to provide an outside smoking area? Places like Snake and Jake for example now have people standing out in the neighborhood streets smoking and drinking. Causing disturbances and adding to the trash in the streets.
Don't worry.. there are zoning laws coming your way that will fix the problem of bars being "too close" to residential neighborhoods.

Use your brain and just get the point.

Because that legitimately steps on smokers' freedom?

16 is an awfully random number to pick

In this one particular instance, i disagree.
that's a shame.

Ban prohibits smoking within 5 feet of a commercial building. So outdoor patios will probably not work either.
Even worse now you are going to have smokers going outside of bars to smoke and they will hang out in front the neighbors yard. That's the problem these dumb laws create.

Why? I care more about non smokers' health than smokers getting to smoke anywhere they like. It's a shame smokers are so selfish they can't just smoke outside or in their own homes.

My brain is furiously spinning trying to see your point. Still waiting for a non-radioactive substance example. Maybe farts? Should people not be allowed to fart in public?
There we go. NO City Council ordinance bans farting in public.
See how stupid that sounds?
That doesnt step on smoker's freedom. It saves their lives, which is what is the "purpose" of this regulation. Saving lives of people who go to bars to drink (not dangerous at all) or work (working is dangerous, sometimes people who are stressed at work have breakdowns or heart attacks).

Come come now. You know they don't have the courage of their convictions to institute something like that. Besides, they would lose all of those excise tax dollars.

Clearly your brain isn't spinning since you're still stuck arguing semantics.

Are farts proven to cause health problems?

How is that any different than laws prohibiting the sale of marijuana?

Funny you should mention it, because just last month the EPA said new methane regulations are coming.

Noxious orders could cause people to become sick and vomit. If you vomit while drinking, you could pass out and choke on your vomit. So a fart in public could conceivably kill someone.
Time to make yard signs to declare my support of new City Council regulations: Guns arent killing people, Farts Are!

Uh, because one's illegal. Weed has nothing to do with this issue though.

no
you care about your own demands over that of the owner of the private business in which you freely chose to enter

Marijuana is the drug of enlightened liberals. It's going to opposite direction of cigarettes; people are practically being encouraged to smoke up.

So clearly you're just going to go off on a stupid tangent rather than discuss the actual issue. Have fun.
