I've been to both and I can honestly say that neither is great. Five guys is way to expensive and their fries are pretty gross. The last time I went I got a burger, fries and a drink and it was over $10, way too much for a fast food hamburger. In and out has to be the most overrated hamburger in all of america. My friends in CA swear by it, but it's really not that good at all.

Don't believe either can hold a candle to Fudrukers.

are most better than the one in Harrah's in NOLA?
are they a drive thru/fast food joint?
actually, do any 5 guys have drive thrus? the one i have been to does not, it's not fast, and it's not cheap like fast food either.

Don't know about Harrah's. Only one I've been to is next to Bass Pro in Houston just off I-10.
Not a drive thru.
Not a drive thru.

so do these places that aren't drive thru, cost more, and take longer really fast food places?

Oh yea. Way faster than a restrauant. You order at the counter and get a gizmo that lights up when it's ready. It's pretty fast and they have a buffet with the lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, pickles, ketchup, mayo, etc. etc.

Five Guys has almost 700 locations compared to I and O's 200. They dominate I and O because they consistently produce better burgers and fries at a higher rate.
You don't know what the hell you're talking about. In n Out is a closely held, private company who has made the decision not to expand beyond a very small regional base across which they can guarantee the quality control of fresh ingredients. All locations are within driving distance of their distribution center.

Just like In n Out.

While my one experience with in-n-out was just kind of an above average meal for a fast food restaurant, i was SUPER IMPRESSED by the efficiency and speed that they seemed to spit out the orders. This was in Vegas and it was really crowded.

Which is a fair expectation and probably what they are shooting for.

I've been to the one right by the strip and agree.

Their cleanliness, speed, efficiency, accuracy, and customer service/demeanor is what impressed the most. Every single one i have seen is always busy, and they have it cranking in there.
