despite being in the city often and eating my way through, this will be the first time at commanders. What to order? What should I not order?

Turtle soup and bread pudding soufflé are necessary, IMO.

Just do the tasting menu if you can get others in your party to agree.

You should order something you'll like and not order something you won't.

Anything you order is a safe bet, but the turtle soup is a must. I personally think the bread pudding souffle is overrated, but nearly everyone else I know loves it/raves about it.

I like the souffle but I really like bread pudding

I'd also recommend the strawberry shortcake from there as it's one of the best I've had

Turtle soup!

No on the bread pudding. Go cheesecake.

Bloody Mary's are good.

Go with the 3 course fixed price selections.

Turtle soup is a must

Do the three course meal

I always get whatever fish or seafood is on the 3 course option menu

If they still have the peach bourbon dessert--get it!!!!

For a first time visit I would fit in an appetizer order of Shrimp & Tasso Henican.

Then on a return visit, try not to order Shrimp & Tasso Henican.

I have a very difficult time not having this and have ordered it in an entree size on several occasions.

To the OP, I don't think you can go wrong with anything. Seasonal items/specials are a good bet. Chef Tory does an excellent job with those. If the strawberry shortcake is offered, I'd consider it although everyone should try the bread pudding souffle once. Tough choice.

Try not to fill up on the garlic bread brought to the table first. It's so darn good. Easy to make at home by the way if you can get good bread.

Your words interest me and I would like to subscribe to your pamphlets.

An entree sized portion of Shrimp Henican? Brilliant! Did they add in something additional on the side or simply scale up the amount of shrimp and okra?

Why? They put a green or aqua ribbon on tables reserved for people they know to be regular customers. It is a signal to the wait staff to take extra good care of these people.

Uh, I don't know that the service could get any more "extra good". They already pride themselves on excellent service. There are better restaurants in New Orleans for good plates of food but you can't beat Commanders service.

I believe it was simply scaled up. I can't recall an additional side.

I believe the green ribbons mean "friend of the family" or something along those lines. There may be multiple meanings.

I think the service is excellent, green ribbon or not. Green ribbon tables may get an amuse or drink or dessert, but the service is the same.

I've been at the green ribbon table before but it's because I used to go in with my friend who was a manager. We got the serious hook up. Impossible not to leave drunk and full.
