First attempt at ramen noodle

Whole family home with the flu. Wife started making chicken noodle soup by boiling an entire chicken.
I talk her into making ramen. Something we have never even thought about making.
Boiled the chicken in seasonings, removed, and deboned.
Strained the broth and added water, add fresh mushroom, bring back to boil.
Buy a ton of add-ins:
Cilantro
Green onion
Lime/lemon
Water chestnuts
Broccoli slaw
Alfalfa sprouts (they were out of bean)
Seaweed
Roasted sesame seeds
Jalapeño
Soy sauce
Siracha sauce
Soft boiled egg
Cheap ramen noodle packs (discard the seasoning pack)
Cook noodles on the side, strain, add to the bowl as you serve.
Holy shite this is good. It’s as good as any I’ve had at any restaurant

Any picks of the noodles

No, but as you can see in the second photo above, you can see the cheap case of ramen noodles at the top of the image. I just boiled them and strained them. Discarded the flavor packet.
I’ll have more photos later when I make another bowl.

Get the vaccine.

All four of us got the vaccine

Looks good.
That being said, looks like a hell of a lot of work for having the flu. When I'm sick you'd be lucky if you can get me to prepare ramen the college way.

I’m over it, I had it this weekend. Daughters came down with it yesterday.
It was really simple, just boil some chicken, save stock, chop add-ons, boil noodles

Was it really the flu? You had it this past weekend and your're over it already? Sounds more like a cold, especially if you had the vaccine like you said (and I realize that it is not 100% effective).

5-7 days. I had it Friday through Today. Still feel like shite, but it’s been over 24 hours without a fever, so I’m not contagious. Back at work tonight.
Actually, I started feeling bad Thursday, but no fever or anything, just ear ache.
Tamiflu is the greatest drug ever made.

I make spicy miso ramen all the time. I keep dashi and two different kinds of miso in the fridge. The best part about it is the broth with the 6 minute egg and the green onions. I enjoy juuuust a touch of rice vinegar in mine too.
Here is a crappy shot of my spicy miso ramen. You can see the layer of sesame oil that is on the top.
Here is a shot of my soy/Mirin ramen from a while back. The egg is the important part of the pic though.

That looks amazing. Do you have a recipe?

That looks delicious. Is that pork belly in the second photo?

The miso ramen recipe is here.
The dark soy ramen with charshu pork is Here.
The miso ramen I make all the time is super simple. Just a dashi, red miso, white miso, soy, siracha, rice vinegar, eggs, noodles, oil, and green onions. The recipe link is a little fancier and a little more flavorful but quite a bit more work. This recipe can come together in 10 minutes.
The soy ramen takes time. It is very salty (which is true of any good ramen). The chicken oil it calls for is dang near impossible to find. I use lard, garlic chili oil, or sesame oil.

Oh. And the egg is super simple too. Bring water to a hard boil. Very very gently lower eggs from right out of the fridge down into the water with a spoon. If there is any drop at all they will crack from the violent change in temp. Set a timer for 6.5 minutes. Remove from water and immediately place in a ice bath for a couple of minutes. Peel and either eat immediately or marinate in soy and mirin for about 8 hours.

That probably leans more toward vietnamese but I would definitely eat. Nice creative redirect.

2 weeks ago 96 kids were out at St Dominic in Lakeview. It was reported that almost all had the flu shot.
You do understand how flu shots work, right?
