Just think they do what they do better than Popeyes. Popeye's service sucks, as do their cajun sides, and they have let their biscuits go from awesome to just ok.

I stand FIRMLY behind that comment.
The red beans have an interesting smoke component, but I could do better with sub-par Zatarain's box and some blue runner. (The rice would be better, as would the overall seasoning and the amount and flavor of the beans.) A side at a place like this should be better than what i can get out of a can or box.
Dirty Rice sucks. The rice is often awful, the overall composition is DRY. I give them some props for appearing to use actual innards in it, as is traditional but not always adhered to these days.
Mashed potatoes and gravy, gravy is ok at best, Mashed potatoes are instant potato like.

There are plenty of fast food items and sides that I can't make as good at home out of cans, boxes, or frozen pouches.
At the least, Popeye's rice itself should be AS GOOD as instant rice made at home. It isn't. Maybe that is the way it is going to be when a fast food place tries to make rice sides. Doesn't change the fact that it is an important part of their menu, and it sucks.

Absolutely not, Chic Fil A is great. In my mind their nuggets are the best fast food nuggets, and their strips are the among the best fast food strips. They have the best Chicken sandwiches. Waffle fries are good, and their in home drinks are great. Even if you go off their normal menu items, their salads and breakfast sandwiches are money. Service is top notch.
Popeyes has the best whole chicken pieces in fast food. They also have great fries and onion rings. If you go away from those things, it is easy to be disappointed.
My point was more, IF popeye's sides were better, they would be better than Chic Fil A in my opinion. But because an important part of their menu isn't very good, Chic Fil A is just better.
