Sigh.
Pulled pork, no smoke to speak of, it's cubed, not pulled so the fat and stuff is in there. Tastes like it's right out of the slow cooker.
Brisket...obviously the flat, sliced too thin, no smoke, there's some kind of glaze on there. Said it was a texas rub, which to me is coarse pepper and kosher salt. But no. Little to no flavor of any kind to speak of.
Baked beans are in a watery solution.
Hill Country was the only place I've had BBQ in NYC that was good. The rest wouldn't register as even decent.

After that shite show of a "BBQ" meal I had at John Brown in Long Island City the last time I was here, I decided I'm going to take a stand. People were giving this place 4 and 5 stars, which is a fricking disservice to everyone.
I wrote a review while I'm still sitting here finishing my beer

I'm starting to think New Yorkers don't know what actual BBQ is. Got the brisket and pulled pork plate with the baked beans.
Pulled pork: no smoke to speak of, it's cubed, not pulled so the fat and other stuff (I also got a piece of bone/cartilage) is in there. Tastes like it's right out of the slow cooker.
Brisket: cut is from the flat (wasn't given the option for point), sliced too thin, dry, no smoke, and there was some kind of glaze on it. Said it was a texas rub, which to me is coarse pepper and kosher salt. But it was definitely not that. Little to no flavor of any kind to speak of.
Baked beans are in a watery solution. The beans themselves were fine I guess, but BBQ beans should be thick and hearty.
I've kind of always had a rule and my trips to New York have confirmed it. If you can't actually smell the hickory or fruit wood smoke from a block or two away, there's a very high likelihood you're not getting real BBQ...rather you're in for something being pulled out of an over and squirted with BBQ sauce. You'll know right away.
Bonus: $5 tap that was decent from Yeungling. I'd consider coming back for the beer.
(Best BBQ I've had in NYC was at Hill Country. Their stuff is quite good.)

It's kind of what I would expect if I went over to a buddies place and he was trying out his new smoker and just fricking winging it.
I'd eat it because, hey, free food, but I'd also be open with him about the fact that there's lots of room for improvement.

2BD, new place. fricking yeungling was the best thing on the beer menu, but the bartender is a cute blonde with a French accent. I tried, but this was the best I could get.
