If you have 4, Airbnb will be a good option. Ask LSUBoo what he recommends. I think you're in the right area in SE Portland.

Portland is divided into quadrants - SE, NE, SW, and NW. The city is split into North/South by Burnside St. The city is split into East/West by the Willamette River (Willamette rhymes with damnit). South of Burnside and East of the river is SE Portland, north of Burnside and east of the river is NE Portland, and so on... Every street in Portland is marked with the quadrant you are in. If you are on 4th Ave, for example, the street name will be prefaced with either SW, NW, SE, or NE, depending on whether you are east or west of the river and north or south of Burnside. This is very effective in helping you orient yourself.

I'm telling you this because there is a lot to do on and around Burnside, expecially near the river, where all the quadrants meet. The Pearl district is on the NW side, near the river and Burnside, for example.

The west side is a little more upscale and more commercial, as Portland goes. The east side is more hipster and down to earth. There are great restaurants and taprooms on both sides. I think you will like the east side better, and it's probably cheaper, too.
