Fast Food Fine Restaurant Fatty Myths

I see a lot of posts about "sorry you are a fatty" and such when people talk about going to McDs, Wendy's, Whataburger etc.
True, they will make you a fatty.
BUT, the fine restaurants that people talk about on here all the time will load you up with more calories and fat than a Big Mac and Fries.

This should be good.

Yes, but how often do people indulge in fine dining? The pricing point alone makes it a treat rather than an everyday event. It's the hot-fast-cheap-n-everyday nature that makes fast food a bad choice.

Those people can afford Personal Trainers and Liposuction.

I think you're mostly full of shite with this. A double bacon cheeseburger burger with mayo all around with large fries and drink would be more calories than any entree + app on this menu.
I made this up completely, and would have no idea of calorie content of each dish. I'm skinny because I don't eat like a pig. If I could afford to eat out every night in NOLA every night I'm sure I could pack on some pounds.

Very true, but chain resturaunts on the other hand can be very heathy. For instance tequila lime chicken at Chili's.

Yea, that's just not true. The burger will be about 1200 calories, the fries maybe another 600. Drink is a wash, because you'll be drinking something with both meals.
Poutine and Shepherd's Pie will have at least 1800 calories unless it is a ridiculously small serving. I'm sure there are several combinations on that menu to get you to 1800 calories.

That is just all the people that would blow up if they ate fast food or drank a coke. Sucks they have a shitty metabolism

probably true to an extent, the secret to many restaurant dishes is that they use an ungodly amount of butter, especially for their sauces...
...but which calories would you rather ingest? Lunch at Peche or Burger King?

Funny you mention Chili's and healthy options. At the other end of their spectrum, the Chipotle Honey Chicken Crispers entree is over 2000 calories, and doesn't really fill you up like you'd think that many calories would.

I love when something seemingly healthy like collard greens tastes awesome at a good restaurant and then come to find out it was cooked in pig lard.
CHEATERS!

Yep, you can be healthy or a fatty at any establishment.

For the record I used chili's as an example since it's the OPs favorite resturaunt.

Did you read a news story or study in the past few days?
LINK
The "full service" restaurants were chains like applebees, chilis, etc..
Of 29 profiled full service restaurants, only 2 were considered "high end", and both of those were steak houses.
The general concesensus on this board seems to be there is little food quality difference between fast food and national chains, and the study pretty much concluded the same thing. I'd say "the fine restaurants that people talk about on here all the time" would more be the high end full service restaurants...which did have less sodium and calories overall. Higher fat, but when you are using steak houses, that should be expected.
Most high end restaurants also have some concept of portion control, while your standard chain uses enormous portion sizes as a selling point. that's a big factor to.

People who regularly make bad food choices are more likely to make other bad health choices in life.

I think the difference is that fine dining is not what people are eating every night. I know lots of posters here post fairly healthy things in the WFDT threads.. even though they indulge once a week or so.
Fast food is not generally considered indulging. For many who eat fast food, it's a staple. And it was meant to be that. It's cheap.. fast.. easy (you don't have to leave your car).. etc.
Obviously, if you only eat fast food every so often, you're likely not a fatty. It's just more likely for people to eat fast food regularly than it is for them to eat fine dining regularly.

Calories are not a thing related to whether you feel "full" as a result of a meal at all.

I'm aware, that was kind of the point.

I don't have any idea why Applebees, Chili's etc. even enter the discussion.
Unless you are really careful at a place like that you are way better off going to McDonalds and getting a Big Mac.
And I didn't say anything at all about:
-whether something is healthy
-how often people eat at a fine dining place
-portion control
If you go to a fine dining establishment and have 2 cocktails, an app that isn't pure veg, an entree with some flavor and a dessert, you are getting way more calories.
Only taking a jab at the "sorry you are a fatty" jabs that permeate the fast food threads.
