I do most of the cooking too... but I'm okay with that. It means I can make meals for both of us and add meat for myself.

My wife's grandmother has sent her some pretty awesome recipes that she's trying more and more often though.

i likewise cook 90% of the time. occasionally she will do some but it tends to be simple stuff - nothing wrong with that but i couldnt do the same 4 or 5 things that she cooks every night, week in and week out.

I do most of the cooking but if I am not home or not feeling like cooking my wife has a few go to meals that she can make. She is the scrambled egg maker on weekends, while I handle french toast, pancakes, or waffles. Overall she knows I love to cook and I'm good at it so its a win win situation.

I do agree that it seems as though men are more and more becoming the dominant person in the kitchen, but I think that a partner should at least be able to put something on the table if the other person is busy/doesn't feel like cooking. In reality if they knew 2 or 3 good simple dishes that would be enough.

I do! I've lost 15 pounds in the past 2 months.

And probably would have lost more but I don't want to buy a new wardrobe.

Oh, I know and I've come to enjoy it more than I thought I would since she doesn't like me adding extra butter and salt and pepper.

Plus I can't just eat fresh fruit and veggies. I'm allergic to most fresh fruit and veggies so I have to cook the allergens out before I eat them.

I do 100% of the cooking.
Lucy does not want to cook.
I don't want her to cook because I don't want to die from food poisoning.
We have a perfect working relationship.

She does some pretend cooking for the dogs. When I buy a bag of sugar cookies off the reduced rack for the dogs, she stirs her hand over the bag and tells them 'Mommie is baking the cookies.'
The dogs jump up and down in anticipation of this cooking feat.
Then 10 seconds later she says "I think they're ready".

Me with ex was simple I walked out and she washed. I shopped everyday with a menu planned as I walked the aisles, the farmers market on Saturdays and the Viet Namese seafood joint the same day was a treat. Have any of you ever had BLUE mashed potatoes?

No. But Lucy's last attempt at cooking (12 years ago) resulted in Green Fish.

Y'all married to some shitty cooks . I thought the men of the food board would all have wives like Giada .

I'm more of a baker than a cook, but I'm still learning and still a young college student. I'm sure my cooking skills 5-10 years from now will be better than they are currently. I usually have to rely on recipes or throw quick things together like salads. I'm not good enough yet to just know recipes off the top of my head like some of the older cooks I know, but they all have 20-30+ years on me in terms of cooking experience.

I sent my SO to my Momma's, every Sunday for a month shortly after we were married (only lived 5 houses down from us). That little apprenticeship worked wonders for our marriage. That's been over 39 years ago. I'm happy and so is she.

Some people just aren't as food motivated as others. My grammaw ate a bowl of Total w/milk, half a banana, and some peanut butter and crackers every night for at least 20 years. Nothing wrong with that, either.

I honestly sometimes WISH I was like this. People who eat to live, rather than the other way around, intrigue me. So much of my money, thoughts, and time are centered around food. It's going to make me fat, and I won't have the willpower to give up the good food I love.

Yeah, I'm more the type of cook that the person on the previous page was talking about-- 15+ ingredients that you have to go buy.. usually something that is different and not "home style"

My mom cooked every single night when I was growing up, but it wasn't ambitious cooking.. it was simple stuff to feed a family. I appreciate that she cooked nightly, but I also have grown quite tired of that kind of food.

Actually yes. I made smashed potatoes from a bag of fingerling potatoes a few months ago and they turned out a nice blue color.

check out a rate her or WYHI thread and you won't be so dumbfounded.

On that note, and to keep on topic, I love to cook.

So glad my mom didn't do this. She's a horrible cook. I learned by trial and error.

Zach these are real blue potatoes, kind of smallish in size, but tasty buggers. When you first see the product your mind kind of does a brain spinny emoticon. Guests will definitely look at the plate and go WTF.

Visit more often, you will have access to centuries of cooking that makes all of the TV networks look very lame.

i do at at least 95% of the cooking. but if i don't feel like cooking, i don't expect the SO to step up: we just do take-out, order in or fend for ourselves. frankly, i enjoy getting to control the menu and don't mind that she has no interest in cooking.

Do both of yourselves a favor and try this. Wife and I have done it and will definitely do it again. Makes for a great date night.

indeed - i think my mom got upset with me showing her up when theyd ask what i was cooking lately cause shes been getting adventurous but was the same way.

im still a young one so at this point ive been investing in better kitchen gadgets, and building up a well stocked/diverse spice cabinet, and then when i get on my whims i can just pick up a couple items and still create something out of the ordinary. its amazing how learning just a couple basic spices/dishes in a few different cultures can really open up a world of random ideas and fusions and derivatives you can make off of those basics to keep things fresh.

My mom too! Now that I'm trying out things I never made before (and didn't grow up eating as a normal meal), she is too. I guess it's a good thing for us both.
