Have family there and frequent a lot
Mexican- La Bambas, or for true authentic Mexican then there is a hole in the wall on E Georgia next to washateria, don't think it has a name
Italian- Roma is your best bet
Asian or sushi rolls type place- Raw is the best
Steak- Bea Vine, not sure how to spell it
Log Cabin and Ponchatoulas for mixed variety of stuff
For lunch your best bet is Rosemary's, pretty damn good and fresh food
Stay away from all the Chinese buffet places, horrible.
Again, La Bamba also has best margaritas you can get.
If you want to sit outside and eat then Sundown has good sandwiches and poboys. Service is pretty slow though.
Barbecue- not much, Bristers is best bet.

Ruston is absolutely awful for food.
Mexican sucks here. I've been to all the restaurants and just no. the Mexican food truck in the true value parking lot is the highest rated Mexican in town on yelp, but I'm wary of food trucks and haven't tried it yet
Italian sucks too. Roma is fricking disgusting. I literally spit out my lasagna and took the rest to go so I wouldn't be totally insulting because the owner was very nice. my sister's carbonara was the worst looking dish I've ever seen served in a restaurant
Ronin wasn't bad for hibachi and sushi
Peking used to be very good Chinese, especially for a buffet, but the last time I had it the quality had gone down. maybe it was just an off night
Hot Rod is very good bbq as is brister's
I highly recommend the pot roast and brisket sandwich at Portico. It's the best thing I've had to eat in this town.
johnny's pizza if you've never had it, but you gotta get the nacho cheese sauce to go with it
the chicken salad sandwiches are delicious at newk's and counter culture, which also has the humphrey yogurt - worth checking out
dawg house burgers on jalapeno bread are good

Just moved to BR from Ruston last month. Spent 5 years in that pit. Food there aint much to write home about, but there's a few good places.
El Toro - It's the same people that own La Bamba, but I find it to be a little better. Service is really really fast.
Portico - Best place to get a burger other than sundown. The do 2 for 1 burgers on Wednesday.
Bristers - Damn good BBQ. Their sliced brisket sandwich on jalapeno bun is one of the biggest things I miss from Ruston.
Raw/Ronin - Both slightly above average sushi places. The interior of Raw does not look like it belongs in a small north Louisiana town. It has a very trendy decor.
Beau Vines - Not worth the $ at all.
Log Cabin - Great steaks with fresh beef straight from Louisiana Tech's farm. The tex-mex there is meh, but everything else is pretty good.
Ponchatoulas - Stay away. Bland north Louisiana attempt of cooking south Louisiana food.
Dawg House - Good burgers and beer if you can stomach the frat crowd.
Sundown - Good bar food and great bloody marys. I spent many many days/nights there eating and getting hammered.
If you MUST do buffet Chinese, go to Z Buffet. It's the least terrible.

Dowling's smokehouse is pretty good.
I see it's called Brister's now.

I've worked up here 5 days a week for the last 2.5 years and have eaten at every restaurant 10x over. Hotel living will do that
There are only so many places out here and most have been named. Hot rod
BBQ is much better than bristers, Rosemary's kitchen for lunch, newks, the Texaco right off the interstate has great Cuban sandwiches and tamales. Portico is one of the better places in town. Had it for dinner last night.
I'll be eating the Mexican food truck for lunch today.

Agree for the most part but I don't care for Hot Rods. Rosemary's is a must for lunch. Forgot about Texaco, good suggestion.

Sundown.
I lived in Ruston 5 years. Sundown is the only place I can recommend.
