Doing an altered version of intermittent fasting is probably the best suggestion for your lifestyle. Unfortunately, you have already gotten some wrong advice regarding intermittent fasting in this thread from several people.

You can’t put cream in your coffee and / or sugar in your coffee. It will break your fast. Sure you could put in a tiny amount of cream, as someone mentioned less than 50 calories, but any noticeable amount would break it. You can use Stevia or maybe some other type of 0 calorie sweetener. I would google whether it will break your fast or not. If you’re a coffee drinker, stick with your pre-approved 0 cal sweetener and no cream when you wake up until lunch. The longer you can push off lunch, the better. Or just don’t eat lunch at all, but that is pretty hard to do.

Only eat between 6 or 7 hours of each day. Again, the less, the better. A 4 hour window is the gold standard, but that would be impossible for me. So if you eat lunch at 12, try not to eat dinner past 7. That would give you a 17 to 18 hour fast.

You can eat more of what you want this way, but obviously, the healthier food you eat, the better. Stay away from fast food, and don’t completely nix bread / carbs, but again, the less of that, the better. Good luck.

Sheesh, are you people the fasting police? The form of modified fasting (50 cals or fewer before lunch) is suggested by more than one nutritionist, and not everyone's metabolism (or weight loss/gain goals) are best served by a total fast. Gender, age, and general health (how overweight, any blood sugar regulation issues) should all be considered as you figure out what kind of diet choices work for you.

It's not one size fits all. An eating plan for a 25 year old male with a beer gut is not going to look like one for a 45 y o runner who wants to drop 5 lbs is not going to look like one for a 55 y o female dealing with a metabolism slowdown due to menopause.

In proportion and for 98%-99% of people yes they are. A 250 calorie deficit of TDEE holding protein constant compared to lean mass will do almost exactly the same thing.

No and it’s not a hard concept, but you have people on here saying they fast by drinking coffee with however much cream and sugar and drinking a juice in the morning lol. Not only is that not fasting, that liquid diet contains more calories and sugar than a typical quick breakfast like a granola bar. But they call it fasting because it’s all liquid. That’s a terrible way to break your fast and would make you starving less than 2 hours after consuming it. That’s really what I was advising against.

Edit: Just realized you had mentioned that coffee + cream + juice in the morning. I agree that a small amount of cream will not break the fast, but it is not just caloric intake that can break it. That’s why I said research what he can intake if he goes that route. While a green juice could have minimal calories, it could contain other substances that cause the fast to break. I’m not an expert, it’s just what I’ve read.

I use to do it. I’d eat subway, or take one of the buns off of my hamburger, no cheese, no fries, or if I got a wrap I would tear off any excess tortilla. I was counting calories so, mostly portion control. I’m not saying it was the healthiest way to do it but I was able to lose weight this way.

nuts and grains and shite like that

Well this is actually what I do. If you just snack on them throughout the day, you will not get hungry. Don't wait to only eat them at lunch time.

When on the road, what are some of the best salad places that you can grab a quick, healthy salad from? Lately for me, it has been Subway salads, but I don't think they are all that healthy

Grocery stores. Rouses, Albertsons, Whole Foods, etc. they all have salad bars. Skip the unhealthy dressings and you’ve got a more convenient, arguably fresher alternative to fast foods or stuff you have to tote in a cooler.
