They don’t do print menus…I see everyone else in town does sort of demarcation.

But why are we importing grouper and redfish on the coast of The Gulf Of America?

Is it Red Drum though?

Redfish is because the only state that allows commercial catch of redfish is Mississippi.

Be cool if local charter captains had those licenses…if you don’t get the $600 charter for the day, grab a deckhand and go berserker on the redfish.

Does MS require that restaurants give notice of using imported seafood like LA does?

Yes. Went to Mary Mahoneys this weekend and they had everything labeled.

I think as long as you provide a key for your symbol or letter you are fine. The OP board clearly doesn’t meet that requirement.

In Mississippi you can commercial fish redfish with rod n reel. You can also get farm raised redfish.

I know Florida farm raises them, but IDK if any of the imports are Red Drum. A google search of ‘imported redfish’ shows all sorts of fish…but if it’s a red drum they’re discussing wild or farmed.

Black drum out of the Gulf (which is very plentiful commercially) would probably be much better than anything these places might be importing from God knows where and serving as "redfish."

If Louisiana allowed more than 4 redfish per day (Mississippi is 3) local charter captains wouldn’t have to worry about not having the charter.

Also-where is a $600 charter? For that price he should stay booked. Well…unless he sucks as a charter captain of which many (most) do.

LSU Aquaculture has really been active in the farm raised redfish industry for both LA and MS and you can find it. I would think it would be used before imports but then again I’m sure even farm raised is more expensive than imported.

If only Paul Prudhomme was still with us to create the blackened Hard Head Catfish.

The near shore guide service Shore Thing is $500 for a couple of people for 4 hours…so with tip…out of the Pass. Marsh trips are a bit more.

I’ve caught red drum almost underneath the Blind Tiger in Biloxi. Unreal that they would import fish, and they are clearly still hiding it. Most people would not see those little I’s. I thought their thing was always fresh gulf seafood. That’s the reason to not print menus.
