Drago’s Seafood is eyeing a potential Baton Rouge location on Constitution Avenue near the corner of College Drive and Interstate 10. A restaurant representative has submitted a rezoning request for a 13,600-square-foot building—formerly home to a music and entertainment store—between a Chili’s restaurant and Hampton Inn at 4580 Constitution Ave.

“We’re real close on a deal in Baton Rouge,” Drago’s owner Tommy Cvitanovich says. “This has been a wish for our family for a long time. We’re very excited and looking forward to serving oysters in Baton Rouge.”

is that the newly cleared out lot? What a traffic mess. I wish them the best.

Haven't heard how the one in Lafayette is doing but its still open so I guess that's a plus?

The location they moved into over here has been at least 4 previous restaurants. That location is cursed.

Every time I've driven by it, the parking lot is crowded.

Gino's has done very well there, but I hate driving in that area.

Ninfa's did well there for years, until they shot themselves in the foot. Chili's is there.. Constitution is a fine location for restaurants, especially convenient for the out of town game crowd that stays in hotels nearby, doesn't know the area really well and wants to go somewhere close to the interstate.

What’s funny is that across the interstate at one point you had Fox and Hound which did well for years and Melting Pot too and both are now closed.

Down the street from Ruth's and Tio Javi. Next door to Chili's. Within walking distance from a Doubletree, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Hampton Inn and an Embassy Suites without having to cross a busy street. No real competition in the area for non-sushi seafood without crossing major streets.

It'll probably do fine if the product is any good. Probably WAY better than if they'd built across from CCLA like they planned.

Well that shopping center is trying to get rid of all it’s tenants in order to tear it completely down then redevelop it.

Places like Fox and the Hound have their run and then something else comes along and the crowd goes somewhere else. You can't really judge an area's potential based on a bar where twenty something's come and go.. Melting Pot pretty much falls into the same criteria. They had a significant run for a place that was trendy, expensive and enjoyed by kids and a younger crowd.

I believe that originally was a Blockbuster Video. Then a music store.

It was a top 10 grossing Blockbuster in the US in the mid 90s. Random facts that I still remember for whatever reason.

weren't they supposed to open a location a few years ago near the Country Club, but it fell through?

Yeah. The article said they've been looking for some time for the right location. Hope it does well. We will go occasionally.

And before that, at some point, it was Photon. Then going even farther back it was a VW dealership.
