Eugene’s seafood gumbo is pretty damn good. Give the cup a dash of cayenne, and it competes with some of the better South Louisiana restaurants.

I enjoy the flavor of the C&S gumbo at Eunice, but man…it could be better if he actually used dark chicken meat instead of solely breast meat in the dish. I know why he does it that way, but still.

The shrimp creole is tasty, but the way he serves it unless asked otherwise is over noodles. I just always ask for it over rice.

I like and respect that he serves his dishes with REAL rice, not that parboiled junk.

DO NOT EAT ON THE PATIO. This time last year, my wife and I had an outside table and the flies were horrendous. Never before have I seen so many flies. Excellent meal but I wouldn’t put up with that again.

If you’re in town on Sept 16th the Astros are playing Texas, nothing better than eating at Irma’s Orginal Mexican just north of the ball park and then catching the game. Also, I’d personally would choose a local Tex-Mex or BBQ restaurant. Like others have said, Ninfa’s Original, El Tiempo or Candente are solid choices. Candente and The Pit Room BBQ are owned by the same person and are a block away from each other. Josephine’s is great but it’s Southern Gulf Coast food that can be had anywhere in South Louisiana.

Tony’s on Ella Street. Outstanding Tex-Mex, decent price, very lively.
