Dorm Kitchen Food

Reading the thread about cooking steaks in a dorm kitchen reminded me of a few dorm foods that I made in college.
Taco Mac burritos. Make taco meat, make Mac and cheese, mix (more meat, less Mac), and then eat on tortillas warmed in the stove.
Souped up ramen. Extra water, soy sauce, dash of vinegar, siracha, toss in a couple of chicken strips that got smuggled from the cafeteria.
Chili Mac. 1 box of velveeta shells and cheese (must be velveeta) and one can of wolf brand chili (must be wolf). Mix.
I miss college. I could eat that chili Mac right now.
What were your go to dorm meals.

Broussard hall athletic cafeteria was less than 50 ft from my door, didn’t need any other food. Honestly can’t remember cooking anything in the dorm, had a small fridge and microwave but can’t remember cooking anything... only lived in dorm 1 year

Dorms was mainly hot pockets from the Pentagon mini-mart. On campus appartments before I figured out how to cook was grilled chicken with a George Foreman grill, Hamburger Helper, and Zatarain's jambalaya mix.

We used to make “three cans”—can of black beans, can of Rotel, can of Mexi corn, plus a cup of uncooked rice. Ready in 20 mins, will feed a bunch of people, goes w chips n salsa.

I survived off of Easy Mac, ramen, and frozen burritos
I definitely made chili mac a few times too
We only had a microwave

Baked potatoes in the microwave.
Also, bacon in the microwave (mostly for sandwiches). That usually drew a couple of people into the kitchen!

I was a latchkey kid from age 12. As the oldest of three with a mom working 2-3 jobs, it was left to me to cook dinner most nights. In retrospect, it was a great learning experience. While my buddies were struggling eating ramen noodles and pop tarts, I was grilling chicken and burgers, making spaghetti, casseroles, and soups. It was not gourmet by any means, but I remember being happy.
I tried to teach both of my kids how to cook before they left home. Neither showed much interest. Now however, I get a call or text weekly from them asking me how to make this or how to do that. It's rewarding. I told my son if he'd learn how to make a couple of things really well, he'd be a damn rockstar in college. He's the only one in his dorm that can cook. He loves it.

I figured this out pretty quick after starting to cook all my meals to save money. Our "dorms" were actually three bedroom apartments with a full kitchen, so I was able to cook full meals. Saute chicken tenders in olive oil, boil some rotini or fusili, add a good sauce. Made for a filling, good, and cheap meal. I had a few others, and constantly experimented. Then I realized women love a guy that can cook. College became MUCH more fun at that point.

Had a kid on my hall whose parents bought him a meal plan, but the dude literally only ate nilla wafers and ramen noodles. Every damn day for every damn meal!! So we got to use all of his pawpoints....this was especially huge when the built the papa johns/taco bell. I guess all this to say I never really had to cook in my dorm room much
