I stir but just a tad to make sure all the grounds are submerged.
4 minutes isn't enough for me, but i'm using Community Medium Roast which doesn't have a real bold flavor to begin with. 8 minutes (or 2 Nine Inch Nails tracks as my co-worker calls it) is perfect for us. pour in a mug and drink black. perfection.

What ate y'all's water to coffee ratios? I have one that I use every so often for coffee, but I don't get enough practice to dial it in. I prefer things on the stronger end.
Truth be tol I use it more for beer and liquor.

I put the grounds in first and pour the water over the grounds.

we have one like this
not scientific but we fill the bottom with grounds until it reaches the top of that black base then fill to the top with water.

ditto, but some grounds still float to the top so I stir those in.

You've gotta get some Rhino coffee next time you're home. It really is great. I made sure my brother brought some back.

Ditto. I've got a bag that I haven't opened. I'll be sure and hook you up. Also, he's going back for a check in a few weeks...I'll make sure he brings a few back.

This is a plan of attack I can get behind.

Yes, in fact we don't have a coffee brewer. Several French presses in various sizes and a Nespresso Lattisima covers all our coffee needs.

It's important that the coffe is ground right. You want a very coarse grind or else the grinds will slip through the filter and into the coffee poured into your cup. I don't like using pre-ground coffee from the supermarket for this reason. It's usually ground too fine for a french press.

French press is an awesome tool. Not just for coffee and tea, but for quick broths and the like.
For instance grab a bunch of herbs, throw it in there, cover with hot stock or water, steep, pour.

I've read about people using it in beer as well. They throw in a pinch of hops or some other flavoring and let it sit in the fridge for a few minutes. Never tried it though.

Am I doing it wrong? I do love the taste.

I have thought about this, but do you have to get your own coffee grinder to get the full flavor? That might be an investment of time & counter space I'm not prepared to make

I did, but I need to get a new one.
The place where the filter thing is connected has gotten loose on mine, and won't plunge down properly anymore. It pops up crookedly when I plunge it, and gets coffee grounds in my coffee.
It's far and away the easiest-best way to make coffee, though, especially if only making for one coffee drinker.

I brought mine to the office. I get made fun of, but my coffee is tons better than that garbage that the rest of those fricks drink.

I use a French Press and an AeroPress. The AeroPress makes better coffee, but the quantity is relatively small. AeroPress also uses a thin paper filter when plunging the coffee, but allows the oil to remain. Primarily use coffee and chicory when making it, 145-170 degree temp range.
