Depends on my level of hungry at the time. If I'm really hungry , I'll eat something I know I'll like.

they want to get food in his mouth as soon as possible so they don't have to hear about his allergies

If it's a really nice restaurant, I always get something different. If it's a place like Chimes I get what I know is decent.

Really depends where I’m eating. A special occasion restaurant, I’m probably getting something different. But for everyday, I often visit a specific place for a specific dish that I’m craving. If I go somewhere for that reason, I’m not getting something else.

most of the time when a non fine dining place takes something off the menu it's because it isn't selling

I typically get whatever the night’s special is. It doesn’t matter what it is. I normally don’t even ask unless there’s more than one.

This way, I’m always eating something different. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don’t.

You might be eating a lot of old food that they want to move before it goes bad.

Nope. Usually at the places that I eat, the special is whatever the chef found that day that he/she decided to add to the menu. Perhaps they got a good deal on an ingredient or perhaps a supplier had something they just had to use. In the case of my favorite restaurant here in Bham, they may have some animals come to harvest from their farm and created a menu item specifically for that.

I also like the special because they typically aren't standard menu items. It's a departure that the chef wanted to try. I feel like they put a little more effort into the meal and it's presentation opposed to the filet they've made a million times.

Whatever, I get something different every time I go out to eat. Just ordering the special eliminates any thought process and ensures that I always get something different.
